Unreal Tournament 3 will be DirectX10 Optimized |
Ó
This might not be news to some of you guys, but this is pretty official. According to the Nvidia Developer Blog, Epic Games' Mark Rein has finally given the go signal to Nvidia to announce that Unreal Tournament 3 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) will be Direct X 10 optimized and in "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" (TWIMTBP) program for launch. The TWIMTBP program is a kind of promotion campaign for Nvidia. Apart from a TWIMTBP splash screen and in-game branding, it also helps game developers optimize and incorporate exclusive features in their games and applications exclusively for Nvidia's graphics cards.
The same dev blog entry also noted that more news on development from the Epic Games team will be coming soon, so keep checking here for updates.

since 360 has some dx10 features and gaystation has none, that means UT will be better on 360! lol!
360 > Gaystation
Yet the Xbox uses a ATI graphics chip, and the PS3 uses an nVidia one, makes sense huh?
360 doesnt have dx10, Thats for video cards you retard
360 haven't DX10 but some strange directx and NVIDIA produce graphic chip for the PS3 not 360.
But also remember the 7900 does not support DX10. Then remember DX10 was developed by Microsoft. Through MS's programming, they cannot get DX10, but they can get features quite similar.
keep dreaming fanboy. DX10 was not finished when the 360 was released, due to microsoft wanting to rush to release to beat out sony.
nope sorry to tell you but the 360 doesn't support ANY dx10 graphics and also the PS3 uses another type of technology that depending on development CAN output dx10 type of visuals so in other words the 360 is screwed in a few years
first off, all you PS3 fanbois, DX 10 is developed by MS.
Now to all you 360 fanbois, we have an ATI chip in our system, so this is a moot point. Besides, the unified shader architecture has a ton of tricks up its sleeves to get some near if not better than DX 10 performance in some games.
Three, this news is irrelevant to both PS3 and 360 owners, seeing as how neither card is DX 10 enabled. For all you idiots who said MS rushed it before it came out, then why doesn't PS3 have it?
The limits of the Hardware still exist and any "extra effects" that become available under a newer development platform can still be duplicated on any other engine on that or any other platform.
In a year or two, Graphics cards will be available for the PC to really take advantage of this but as anyone that tried a new 3dmark when it first arrives knows, it take a while for slideshows to become animations when these new features are given some gas...
Sorry, there are no 'magical elfs' going around in the machines with special wands, unlocking massive new areas of untapped power..
lol
Kids say the funniest things don't they.. ahh
Ps3 version supports Keyboard and Mouse , 360 doesn't... I'll be buying this game for my ps3 and not my 360 for that simple reason.
Epic has already shown what the 360 can pull off with Gears Of War, so Im pretty sure UT3 will look stunning on 360, DX10 or not.
Sad, you people always have to turn things into a console war.
And your helping this "console war"
See how that works? ^_^
(Sarcasm begin)LOLROFLCO PTER U R TEH FUNNEH, GAYSTATION OMGOMG MY RIBS HURT(sarcasm end) Wow, you really need to think (if you don't know what "thinking" is then here you go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thought try it some time, it can do wonders!) before you post something, it makes me wonder how kids even know how to use "teh intarweb". I really don't even know why I bother to look at forums or comments anymore, they're littered with arrogant idiots like you. Well at least you didn't use "l33t speak" I'll give you credit for that.
DX10 offers better ways to develop games on the PC,since every PC have a different configuration,D X10 will allow better development and utilization of resources like the abilty to use both the VRAM and System ram for texturing and so on..
these "features" are already available in console developement,th us DX10 is an Improvement in PC development but not much for Consoles
talking about DX10 is irrevelant, most of the new techniques used for DX10 are already available for both the 360 and PS3
Who cares maybe is going to be for computer Too!!!!! thats why they are saying DCX10.. what I know is that this game is going to be better in the ps3 than in the xbox well how do I know well I watched a video and the team creating it were saying that .... just go find the freaking video in youtube...
Ahh the intelligence level on the net never ceases to amaze me. "Gaystation". Absolutely brilliant!!
BTW...isn't it your bedtime soon?
I remember reading just yesterday about the xbox having directx 10 capabilities but not all. and that out of the ones it did not have only one relating to something to do with memory had an effect on games. I'm sure you can find if you look I don't now anything about it other than it was a developer chat web site.
How so? I was simply stating the fact that Epic created GoW and that is arguably the best looking 360 game out to date. If they can make a game like GoW, then UT3 should look just as good or better. In no way is that stating anything negative about other consoles.
ohh yeah well you have a SEXBOXgay60 hahahahahah
EPIC never said the PS3 version supports keyboard and mouse IN GAME, and for obvious reasons.
So if you're buying the PS3 for that reason, then you're wasting your time.
"how do I know well I watched a video and the team creating it were saying that ...."
Stop lying, that has never been said by EPIC. Fact!
If it's on youtube, you go find it and post the link here as proof or simply STFU.
Yes, Epic clearly showed the power of the 360 with Gears of War, which is a clear indication of what UT2007 will look like on the system.
Oh wait, that was for buggy 4v4 multiplayer matches. Hmmf.
Do you really think they'll be able to just scale the engine up to 15v15 without taking a hit to graphical detail and effects?
The Xenos GPU in the 360 apparently has support for stream processing, which is a feature in DX10 - but that really doesn't apply, since Microsoft hasn't taken any initiative to port the technology over. Namely since it is built into the operating system, and is more suited towards COMPATIBILITY BETWEEN DIFFERENT HARDWARE CONFIGURATIONS AND MANUFACTURERS.
It makes NO *****ING DIFFERENCE TO CONSOLE PLAYERS.
I own a PS3, and all the Xbots and PStards can shove this up their asses. Consoles are different development platforms with very specific hardware. These development suites would first need to be tailored to our systems, and by that time - you might as well write it for the system in question, from scratch.
I just built my new computer with nVidia 8800 gts 640 with Q6600 on MS Vista Ultimate and this will rock it. Also, I got the PS3, but too bad I don't play FPS. I get dizzy like that warning on the game cart.
hmm+real idiot everyone got shots to take when your at the top of the food chain meh wat ever i own both systems love em both i guess hmm can't aford a ps3 step your game up or cry to mommy about it
xophaser lol thats mad jokes for real RPGs are still the truth though hey Square Soft a FINAL FANTASY 7 remake for the PS3 please. Shout out to epic games..Gears of War sure hell is buggy but alot of damn fun to play i tell you...again shout out to those that own a 360 and a ps3 and laugh at the ones that hate on a particular system DUMB ****
Finally, the 8800 Ultras get put to the test. I should've settled for the tried and tested GTXs though. O.o
They are only marginally better than their predecessors. Really, you're stuck with a marginal increase in performance, mainly because of higher clockspeeds - reinforced by higher quality heatsinks and fans.
Firstly 360 supports ANY KEYBOARD through USB I have a wireless third party one in mine right now.
A mouse and keyboard interface is also available(it also lets you plug in PS2 pads wheels etc) but most people prefer the equal playing field of the pad, and have you played TIBERIAN WARS on the 360 ?,I doubt you have as its excellent, mouse not needed at all....
Well when you think about it this game has never been anything special, its just average...........
I haven't written this but its interesting
An EA developer has called in to let Maxconsole know that he believes the Xbox 360 will triumph over the PS3 due to its better performance and more rounded support. These claims come on the revelation that development of Army of Two on the Xbox 360 manages to yield a maximum of 60fps while the PS3 version struggles to reach 30fps currently. Army of Two is expected to hit retail shelves during November
this is what came from that forum:
I told all the PS3 fanboy in the thread about the RSX being more powerful than Xenos. SOny is losing at the HARDWARE battle who would have thought that? Me all PS3 is, is a fancy blu-ray player, and you can't even watch blu-ray without HDMI unless you want to watch it at 480p. I can watch al HD-DVD's at 1080i without HDMI on my 360. HAHAHAHAHHA
PS3 fanboys AM CRY. Look at my post in the other thread the 360 GPU slaughters the 7900GTX and X1950XTX which are way more powerful than the RSX.
THE 360 GPU IS MORE POWERFUL THAN A 7900GTX and X1950XTX which is way beyond the PS3's GPU. Xenos can actually sustain its max outputs, where as the PS3's GPU is only 60% efficient, which means it is very WEAK in comparison. Xenos will kill the 7900GTX and X1950XTX, something the PS3 can't.
First to put this to rest the PS3 has a severe memory limitation when compared to the 360. Example: I did notice a report done by 1up.com that talked about the main memory in regards to PS3 version of Oblivion and downloadable content. In that report they said that the memory that the PS3 had could not hold all the downloadable content that has come out on XBOX 360 so in that case it is a big deal. The developer had to choose the content for Oblivion on PS3 instead of including it all. That is a limitation that will continue to get worse as games grow larger and larger in games of this type. SO EVEN IF THE PS3 GPU IS MORE POWERFUL COMBINED WITH CELL YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW BECAUSE OF SEVERE MEMORY LIMITATIONS. Look at Prey, couldn't be done on the PS3, again GRAW2 and Rainbow Six Vegas devs are having a he11 of a time working with the PS3 memory limitations, I guarantee FRAMERATE ISSUES.
Quote from a developer: From all I've seen, and overall feeling here at my work (no, it's not MS, it's an independent developer) the 360 is way better from memory, graphics, overall CPU power and functionality. and it's clearly easier to develop for, as well.
Want to know why Xenos doesn%u2019t need as much raw horsepower to outperform say something like the x1900xtx or the 7900GTX? It makes up for not having as much raw horsepower by actually being efficient enough to fully achieve its advertised performance numbers which is an impressive feat. The x1900xtx has a peak pixel fillrate of 10.4Gigasamples a second while the 7900GTX has a peak pixel fillrate of 15.6Gigasamples a second. Neither of them is actually able to achieve and sustain those peak fillrate performance numbers though due to not being efficient enough, but they get away with it in this case since they can also bank on all the raw power. The performance winner between the 7900GTX and the X1900XTX is actually the X1900XTX despite a lower pixel fillrate (especially in higher resolutions) because it has twice as many pixel pipes and is the more efficient of the 2. It%u2019s just a testament as to how important efficiency is. Well how exactly can the mere 360 GPU stand up to both of those with only a 128 bit memory interface and 500MHZ? Well the 360 GPU with 4XFSAA enabled achieves AND sustains its peak fillrate of 16Gigasamples per second which is achieved by the combination of the unified shader architecture and the excessive amount of bandwidth which gives it the type of efficiency that allows it to outperform GPUs with far more raw horsepower. I guess it also helps that it%u2019s the single most advanced GPU currently available anyway for purchase. Things get even better when you factor in the Xenos%u2019 MEMEXPORT ability which allows it to enable %u201Cstreamout%u201D which opens the door for
nllx you remind me of ghey
will you really have no life, and you are a *****
I think there are only talking about the PC version guys
The video of the interview was on this website.
http://www.qj.net/Mark-Rein-talks-Unreal-Tournament-III/pg/49/aid/81118
They said that they are using this game to showcase their technology on the PS3.
Now before you cry about me being a fanboy notice that I don't say a thing in this post about the 360 or the PC. I am only stating what the team for Epic said. Take it how you will!
There is your link! Now you can STFU! Loser!
I am pleased you did not write that, Will, because I would hate for you to drag yourself down like that :)
I take it that you copied the text for entertainment purposes and yes, it forfilled that role and more for us all...
The taking of random bits of info and stringing them together in a completely haphazard way with no understanding of the meaning or context of the information demonstrated or the part any of it has to play in the overall scheme of things makes it a masterpiece.
Its right about one thing though, it mentions about the importance of efficiency and ironically, shows testament to how important it is to be efficient at understanding what you are talking about before you make amusing, inappropriate and inaccurate comments like that :)
you fanboys are so lame
PS3 actually uses one of the new opengl variants with dx10 effects, aka "DX10 on XP". Check out that new game Haze by Free Radicals. It looks like Crysis but its gonna use opengl for the pc.
because PS3 is using opengl, y would sony license something from microsoft? lol
The key specification that makes DirectX 10 what it is has to do with the fact that DirectX 10 is completely based around Unified Shader technology.
The ATI GPU in the Xbox 360 is the first GPU to ever use Unified Shader technology. The reason Microsoft insisted that this technology be used is because Micrsoft was working on Windows Vista at the time, and Microsoft knew the future of 3D graphics would rely on Unified Shader technology.
The Xenos GPU in the Xbox 360 is custom designed by ATI. It was FAR ahead of its time, because it was using technology that the PC didn't see until late January of 2007, when Windows Vista was released.
The Playstation 3 originally was never supposed to include a GPU; it was supposed to include two Cell CPUs. However, when Sony saw the Xbox 360 and the performance the ATI GPU offered, Sony was forced to add a GPU to the Playstation 3. The bad thing for Sony is it caused the price to be raised so much that one of the Cell CPUs needed to be removed from the PS3. This is exactly the same thing that happened to Sega when they were forced to quickly redesign the Saturn after they saw the original Playstation. Both the PS3 and the Saturn ended up being very difficult to develop games for, and too expensive.
The Nvidia GPU in the Playstation 3 is a generic GPU that is based on four-year old PC graphic card technology using Non-Unified Shading technology. The GPU in the Playstation 3 isn't nearly as advanced as the Graphics Processing Unit in the Xbox 360.
The Xbox 360 and the PC are both based around Direct3D technology. The Playstation 3 uses OpenGL technology that isn't as good as Direct3D. Just because Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 all use "The Unreal 3.0 engine" doesn't mean all of them are the same. Actually, the PC and the Xbox 360 versions of the Unreal Engine are virtually identical, because they are both based on Direct3D. However, the Playstation 3 version is the odd-man-out, because the PS3 uses the OpenGL language.
The Unreal 3.0 engine was recently optimized using a lot of the lessons learned from Gears of War. This helps the Direct3D versions of the engine more than it does the PS3's OpenGL version. This is the reason why the Steven Polge recently confirmed the Xbox 360 is the Lead Development Platform for Unreal Tournament 3. Mr. Polge makes this confirmation on page 52 of the July 2007 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine.
Here is what it says on page 52 of the Official Xbox Magazine:
"And while the game is in simultaneous development for both PC and 360, it's the Xbox that dictates the detail. "Our visual bar is based on Xbox 360," reveals Polge. "How beautiful can we make it and still have it run solid 30 frames per second? Then, after that, we go and look at PC. It's very good for keeping us focused on what we need to do, what's a reasonable spec. The Xbox 360 is powerful enough that we're not having to change the game visually. In fact, on PC, we're worried about how we scale back to lower-end PCs."
This 100% proves the Xbox 360 is the lead platform for development. Steven Polge is the Lead Developer, so he would obviously know because he is the person in charge of handing Unreal Tournament 3's development on all three platforms!
With Mark Rein now saying the game is optimized for DirectX 10, which is in the Direct3D family, it takes it a step further that the Xbox 360 version is going to be very special.
Most PC ports to the Xbox 360 come from games that used DirectX 9. Yet the Xbox 360 versions of the games are always better than the PS3 versions. For example, F.E.A.R. won many awards on the PC, and it was ported to the Xbox 360 in an awesome way with excellent quality!
But the Playstation 3 version offers very poor performance! The Playstation 3 has framerate problems, just like so many other PS3 games, and it doesn't even offer the ability to talk while you play online. If you want to see how disappointing F.E.A.R. on the PS3 is, go to this website and read the review: http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3158930
The
The Xbox 360 does a great job of receiving ports and simultaneous releases of PC games that uses DirectX 9, but it is actually DirectX 10 that the Xbox 360 shares much more in common with, because DirectX 10 is based on Unified Shader technology. The Xbox 360 versions of PC ports from DirectX 10 software on Windows Vista will be amazing--FAR superior to the ports on the PS3.
Just look at the trouble the developers are having using the Unreal 3.0 engine on the PS3. For example, Rainbow Six: Vegas has been available on the Xbox 360 for over six months, but it is still nowhere to be seen on the PS3. It's like that with many other games, as well.
Just because Mark Rein said this to Nvidia doesn't have anything at all to do with the PS3. The reason it was important to mention the name Nvidia is because Nvidia didn't want to switch to Unified Shader technology because they had so much invested in Non-Unified Shader technology. Now, Nvidia will be paying other companies to use their patents.
One thing is for sure, it really does suck to be the Playstation 3 for the following reasons:
1. PS3 is the worst selling next-gen system, which makes it the "odd-man-out."
2. Xbox 360 has always had an advantage because it is nearly identical to the PC. It is very easy to port DirectX9 PC games to the Xbox 360, because both are based on virtually identical Direct3D technology. PS3 is once again the "odd-man-out" because it uses OpenGL technology.
3. The PC is now starting to switch from DirectX 9 to DirectX 10. This is a BIG advantage to the Xbox 360, because not only will the PC and Xbox 360 share Direct3D features, but both will become even more identical because both will now be using Unified Shader technology. The PS3 is once again the "odd-man-out" because it is still using four-year old Non-Unified shader technology.
