Unreal Tournament 3 to become a timed PS3 exclusive? |

Notice the question mark at the end of the headline? Yup, that means we haven't confirmed if this is fact or fiction, but if this is true, then PS3 owners rejoice! PSXExtreme reports that PS3 owners will get first dibs on Epic Games' Unreal Tournament 3, an FPS also scheduled to be released for the PC and Xbox 360. The news is supposedly based on a Geoff Keighley interview on GameTrailers.
According to PSXExtreme, it was mentioned in the interview that UT3 will first be released on the PlayStation 3, to be followed later by its release on the 360 and PC. UT3 becoming a timed exclusive for the PS3 may have a serious impact on the 360-PS3 race, but Microsoft supposedly said that user-created mods (which Sony allows) could be used to "undermine" its Xbox Live service, and that Microsoft is still waiting for Epic Games to "resolve some issues" with the game.
Until now we haven't found that Keighley GameTrailers interview, and we haven't found out either who gave this confirmation about Unreal Tournament 3 being a timed exclusive for the PS3. But as soon as we find it, we'll update the article and post the video. Until then, let's file this one under rumors.

That's such a load of bull. It's based on a Geoff Keighley interview on GameTrailers (Bonus Round Episode 6) in which he never mentioned Epic or UT3 specifically and was operating under the presumption that Sony would allow for mods of PS3 games. Unfortunately for him, in the next part of the episode Sony's Director of PSN Operations hinted that they might not allow for mods (in the traditional sense) after all.
Anyway, until we can confirm or debunk this rumor (and I have no doubt Mark Rein will react to it) let's stick to the facts. IGN has recently updated their release date lists and according to them the Xbox 360 version is scheduled for a November 2007 release while the PS3 version arrives in January 2008.

Would be crazy of Epic to delayed the title and miss the holiday season. But it looks to me that Epic is really really pushing MS buttons to give them what they want. If it works, it's good news for 360 owners and Epic. If it doesn't work, delaying the game is only going to hurt Epic. There's enough games there to fill the hole until it comes out.
It's coming out in Nov for the 360. I just preordered it last week and my friend (who actually works there) said it was a definate nov release.

i call bullsh*t - why would Epic make UT3 a timed exclusive for the PS3, when Microsoft have played a big part in making Gears of War such a huge hit it is.
if anything, it should be a timed exclusive for the XBOX 360.

i didnt think it was gonna go ps3 first. i thought it would be for the 360 first since Epic already optimised the unreal engine for the 360 with gears of war. but hey, i wouldnt mind it on ps3 first.... we'll see how this goes.

it took me five minutes to debunk this rumor. Put forth the effort Rica M. It was episode 6 part one the interview with Aaron Greenberg where Keighley said that but true he didn't mention a particular game or developer. now it could be true that A game would be a timed release for PS3 but it is not UT3. Gamestop.com also confirms that the 360 version of UT3 is to be released first in November followed by PS3 in '08.
I'd almost like it to be a timed exclusive...because if the "reports" of it being released in september are correct, i'm going to have a tough time deciding between this or Halo 3....
I'd rather save myself that pain and have halo 3 for 6 months then get UT3 down the line with perhaps more enhancements or content....or just without h3 for competition...
I would buy it for the consoles. not everyone can afford a bad ass video card i myself have a nvidia 6800gt but that's old school now. I just cant seem to spend another $500 on upgrading my pc.

Halo is coming out in Sept. and UT3 in Nov. plenty of time to beat it and have a month or two for multiplayer. I cant wait to get my limited edition Spartan helmet, now where am i going to find the rest of the armor that will fit my cat.

xbox live didnt mean that the ps3 using mods would "undermine" xbox live, it was allowing mods to be used on the 360 that would undermine Xbox Live.
I'm sure microsoft will dish out another million dollars just to stay ahead of everyone. But this game will be bigger than Halo3. Hell the engine is hella better. PS3 is by far a much better quality (longer lasting) console.

To even think about being competitive they would have to reduce the price of the machine by half thus loosing even more money while nintendo and even microsoft make profits on every one of their machines they sell.

and as soon as a game look better on the 360 they say that developers still havent tapped the piss s 3's potential. well look at the games. if they look the same the ps3 version will have frame rate problems. thats why the 360 versions always look better. the developers have to lower the games graphics in order to make the ps3 version run smooth. face it the ps3 is MAXED OUT! there is NOTHING more a developer can do to make it better!

first of all.. you're wrong about the fact that the games look better on the xbox360. They look either the same, or (depending on the video the game can output to) possibly better on the PS3. Look at any game review from IGN.com and see how they compare the graphics from one system to another. Saying this from an unbiased standpoint, the PS3 is in fact a better peice of hardware than the xbox360 (note: I'm purely talking about hardware, not about the systems in general). Peter Moore's comments are also biased as he is the head of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business division, which includes the Xbox and Xbox 360 game consoles.
It is definatly true that many franchise games that were PS3 exclusive are no longer exclusive, however, the fact remains that the xbox360 has been out longer on the market and is less expensive and thus more people have bought the system. Game developers would be foolish to only market to one system that is more expensive and not as widely used. You cannot assume that because of the economic mindset behind the retail decisions of certain developers that the ps3's potential has already maxed out. In fact, there are other developers (Team Ninja from another QJ.net artical for one) that are focusing on determining how to max out the PS3 potential.
I guess instead of skimming I should read a few of these things,lol.

Umm, there is alot of BS here. if anyone would pay Epic for a timed exclusive, it would be Microsoft, since they have alot more money than Sony. Also, I have a 360, and it isn't that loud, though it maybe because I got it recently, I don't know. Finally, my 360 is fine playing GoW, even though I have accidently scratched the disc.
Get it for PC, i think a decent set-up can run this smoothly, plus PCs already pummels any consoles in the graphics department, and FPS is better using a keyboard and mouse config, though you can use that for PS3 as well, idk about 360 though.
