Uncharted: Among Thieves to "max out" PS3's SPUs

The science world had Einstein who used only about 40 to 60 percent of his brain, and yet still came up with the brilliant theory of relativity. In the PS3 world, we have Naughty Dog who used only 30 to 40 percent of the PS3's power and still came out with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Now, imagine if they went the full hundred. Full of wondrous possibilities, huh?

Well it seems like for the case of Naughty Dog, we won't have to imagine that hard. Christophe Balestra, Naughty Dog co-president, revealed in an interview with EDGE that they will be taking the technological development of the game to its fullest possible extent for the sequel, Among Thieves.

"Uncharted used 30 per cent of the PS3's SPUs, and this time we're maxing it out," he said. "That means we can blend and switch animations a lot quicker, and we have more facial joints in-game for characters to react with believable expressions."

And I personally can't wait to see that. With Uncharted, working only with the 30 percent of the SPUs already gave a handsome graphics quality; what more if they max it out! So far, no game has "maxed" the PS3's SPUs. The most was Killzone 2, using 60% of the SPUs.

We'll be keeping a close watch on the development of this title, so just stay tuned here on QJ.

......

I'm going to go out and say that the game itself will have more impressive calculated effects (better AI, animations, and the like) versus improved raw graphics. I feel as though that the Reality Synthesizer is probably the limiting factor in making these games unbelievably realistic looking.

i...

strongly disagree with that because it has been proven that there are no limiting factors in ps3s hardware, the only limitation is that it is hard to develop on.

Nope

I'm not going to believe this. The developers always hype up their games to only not come to fruition. Imo God of War 3 has a better chance of using the SPU to 100% then Uncharted 2 cause God of War 3 is supposed to be the most anticipated PS3 exclusive in 09 having a crap load stuff that, supposedly from the director, will blow people minds. And knowing the history of God of War games, I have no doubt that game will do just that. While Uncharted 1 was great, I don't see it happening. Call me a pessimist, or a doubter, but I just cannot or will believe this news.
