One question than remains unanswered -- and will probably stay that way until Uncharted 3 comes out -- is how Naughty Dog will keep the series' guided, story-based cinematic flavor while giving fans the feeling of actually being lost in the desert.

"We sent guys to the desert and looked at desert reference and realised that the desert actually does have some natural barriers," said Richmond. There are dunes that are impossible to climb. We sent a couple of our art guys out there and they were trying to climb these dunes and the sand was just sliding.
"We get away with some of that kind of stuff. But at some point we have to do something. And I don't want to say what we did because I think we came up with a really cool solution. But we try not to kill you."
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception for the PS3 comes out this November.

It's good to know that they know open world would suck in this franchise.

no grappling hook, use a stick,
no stick, use grenade,
no grenade, use rocket launcher,
no launcher, use water.
water is limited. if you use water, you won't survive the desert.
no no, go die. load save point and make sure you take everything with you.
there, some idea for a desert game. I know it sucks..
i haven't played Uncharted by the way.. I always looking forward to. maybe soon..

playing through the first one for the first time, its good but not UC2 quality
anyway i think the desert was a very big mistake for the franchise
they are doing it because they feel its warranted, because theyve done jungle and snow

Disappointing. What's with the open-world hate? A lot of the most successful games have been open world -- GTA, Red Dead Redemption, Elder Scrolls, etc.. Exploration is part of the fun. I don't get the hate.

If they want to make an open world game, they'll create a new IP. :)
