Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Beta patch and Play with the Developer event details |
Ó
Justin Richmond, Multiplayer Designer for Uncharted 2, announced at the PlayStation Blog that they will be releasing a patch in the next few days. Now in order for you to get his patch working properly for you, he gives out a special instruction: You must watch the screen closely while booting into the beta. As soon as you see the patch message come up in the XMB overlay, you should hit X to accept as quickly as possible.
Take note that if you miss the window, your PS3 unit will only reset, but NOT patch. That's why you have to pay close attention to it. If in case you do miss it, there's no need to fret cos you can simply try again.
As to what the patch will address:
General
- Grenade explosions now apply damage properly
- Players should no longer get hung up in matchmaking for long periods of time
- Ranks should no longer reset randomly
- Quitting the game will no longer reset the PS3
- Player collision - players should no longer get hung up on each other when moving through the environment
- Player will now be killed if stuck in falling animation for too long
- In Plunder mode, treasures will no longer disappear during matches
We'll get back to you to let you know if the patch is already live. Oh, by the way, there's a rather important post-script that you also have to know about: all ranks will be reset with the patch.
Meanwhile, there's also an event happening for the Beta in the course of the next couple of weeks known as "Play with the Developer." There's gonna be four of these events, and am sure you'd want to join, simply because members of the Naughty Dog Team will be playing with you guys - and in different models too so it'll be easy to spot them. More markers for the Naughty Dog Team: pirate for the villains and Drake with a Naughty Dog shirt for the heroes.
Sched as follows:
- Tuesday, June 9 – 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM PT
- Thursday, June 11 – 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM PT
- Tuesday, June 16 – 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM PT
- Thursday, June 18 – 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM PT

Why would a game need to reset the PS3 when quitting out anyways? Totally clear memory or something? LittleBigPlanet does it a lot too. It's not a big deal as such, just annoying to have to turn the joypads back on and set my status to unavailable again.
I very much doubt it's intentional. Just crap programming.
Cause Socom does it always and we all know how crappy the programmers were for that, now don't we. Same with PJ Eden, atleast for me.
