Will this be Sony's key to win the console wars, as Pachter have predicted? Rumor is out that the mysterious 40GB PS3 SKUs are already in the works, with the GBP 299 pricetag (US$ 604) attached to them.CVG reported that they were able to speak with unnamed sources from the publishing and retailing sectors, who confirmed that the PS3 price cut to GBP 299 will be applied to a "stripped down" version of the PS3. While they didn't explicitly mention the 40GB, it certainly fits the bill.
With Sony set to make news about the 40GB about the same week as the Halo 3 launch, you can expect some waves happening in the gaming scene soon. More updates as they come!

I am sick of these rumors. Tell me when something with fact comes along.
And "stripped down" ... if there is anything besides the lack of the emotion engine and a smaller hard drive Sony is going to eat ***** again.
So a "stripped down" 40g model would cost 600$US? That's nonsense, how can the "stripped down" model cost more than the 80g! :S
Anyway, I still suppose that we'll see some price cut near the holidays, but this news is soooo fake!

Yeah, the current price of the uk ps3 in dollars is $850, so just put that into perspective and $600 is a perfect price for us

1st: the 600$ is in US, not in UK dollards
2nd: 1,00 GBP+ 2,01308 USD so NO they don't pay more for the same, they pay HALF for the same... grrr, why can't nobody read that I write.
3rd: 600$USD for a stripped down 40g model would mean that we (they) pay more (5$ more) than for the 80g model, and that, for the 40g model. That's what I wanted to say.
Did you mean"pay more for less" meaning that everything cost a lot more (not talking about currency) in UK for nothing? like europeans are saying that they pay too much compared to us? Then, this is MY error and I am absolutly sorry, pardon me please. Then, it would mean that we'll get it for less than 604$USD? but even at 500$USB it's not a bargin... (for the 80g yes, but not for a 40g :S) Only at 400$ it's a good price (IF they don't remove other stuff than the 40gigs!).
the "(US$ 604)" was only there to say what £299 is in us dollars so people from the us reading this will get a perspective of how much it is, would you of know how much £299 is in dollars? and the uk and europe pay more for what you get in the us for instance the 60gb ps3 here in the uk is £425 which is $855 and how much do you pay for 60gb (dont think you have 60gb any more its 80gb) you pay $599 or $499 which is £297 and £247
I think you can't read at all. Like gtauk stated that (US $604) was to show what £299 was in US readers. So please before you start saying how we can't read make sure you understand what the article is actually saying.
