PS3 - Image 1 We guess after everything has been said and done, PlayStation 3 will still be loved in Europe. We all know about the launch delays and launch announcements delays and every single bad press that has plagued Sony ever since. Despite all those, it has been reported yesterday that fans are still willing to welcome the console with open arms.

Like this group for example: some members of the UK development community talked with gaming site GamesIndustry recently and reflect on their views about PS3 and everything in between. Sports Interactive's Miles Jacobson seemed somewhat hopeful as he mentioned that the delay is actually beneficial:

I'm excited by the amount of quality in the launch titles for Europe, and the five month delay has certainly helped from that perspective. Cost could become an issue later on in the cycle, and a good online system will be important, but for early adopters, it'll be all about the games.

While the first generation titles are already excellent, as far as Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley is concerned, the second wave of games will do it for Sony. He exclaimed:

It's not been the smoothest of run-ups to launch so far but the technology, once you get to grips with it, is fantastic. Most first generation games will have developers just getting things running well enough to satisfy Sony. In my opinion its the second wave of PS3 games that will begin to tap into its power.

Lastly, Team 17 Studio Director Martyn Brown mentioned that the Cell architecture is not a problem at all for developers, in contrast to most reports. He explained:

There was a lot of rumour-mongering prior to the PS3 development hardware arriving that it would require huge teams and untold complexities. There's certain elements of that which ring true, but only for titles that are wildly ambitious in terms of range and content detail, but as for day-to-day development, we've more or less taken it in our stride.

Love the last quote...

Pretty much saying.... "If you want to make something new and revolutionary, it's tough, but if you want to do the same old sh*t, no problem, we are slacking like crazy..."

They're being paid off...

Quoth the fanboys: "$ony is paying off the developers so they'll say that the POS3 is easier to program for. The Gaystation 3 is harder than hell to program for! I'm not a game programmer, and I really don't use a computer for anything but porn, but I still know what I'm talking about!! LOLRZ $ony is ded 4 teh win!!" Isn't that the usual, well thought out retort when pro-PS3 news comes out? I'd lay down $5 that there'll be a comment like that down below if I knew I could collect...

Funny

Somehow it seems at all the hatemongers are losing there arguments one by one. First it's, the games are going to suck, and we get Resistance and MotorStorm, which both prove the PS3 is a capable system. Then we get the, it's hard to develop for the PS3 and here is the response. Still Sony did not deliver on the PS1 and PS2 games graphical quality which added to the negativity. Now that's been fixed. Next is the 1080i non-HD standard tv problem, that some people have and that is also going to get fixed. Next thing you know there going to lower the price I hope. =) It hasn't been smooth sailing, but it's getting better day by day. Long live the PS3, Xbox 360 and the Wii.

It still isn't value for money, you forget that motorstorm has only been release in Japan and it's not a great release. The main thing i hate about the PS3 is the bluetooth drop outs. I have played it quite a lot at my local store and have felt like throwing the controller though the shop window many many times. Frame rates on almost all titles are very poor, hopefully not something PS3 owners have to get use to. If Sony can fix those problems, maybe i'll start calling it a gaming console. Currently it's just a rip off Betamax player, with very limited gaming appeal and extrememly low fun factor. The best thing the PS3 is good at is collecting dust, with it's revolutionary dust collecting case and the fact that their is little gaming entertainment value to be had. Harsh but true words. Wii60 mother*****ers.

:O

As long as you keep them like you keep your nintendo and atari, they'll live forever... in emulators.

Um...

Ok, lets just rewind a bit. MotorStorm is a great game. I own the japanese version and anyone can order it abroad if they feel like it. It rocks even without the online. You really should try it fully when it's released for western audiences. I do still hope the online portion comes as an added bonus for the japanese. Bluetooth dropping is a problem, but not as wide as you'd like and want to think. As you have propably read on many forums, there's really not a problem with the PS3 hardware like on the for example Xbox360. Xbox is a good machine, but Microsoft has a problem with the reliability of it's console. Soon hopefully fixed with the smaller die processor or some other fix. At the same time it would be good to change that loud dvd drive also. Sometimes people draw bad conclusions based on demo units versions of games. Like you did and will do. We still have people crying that MotorStorm is not good looking or has bad framerates or is slow. But those problems are long gone even on the Jap version. It's a friggin blast to play, but people still want to diss it just on an old version still stuck in the demo unit. It's understandable as some just want to justify buying only one console. If the other has good games, then you automatically want to play them down. Frame rate problems are a part of the bad ports problem and I hope EA and other lazy publishers (Raven, I'm looking at you with the Marvel thingy) will fix those. It still clear that those publishers had to release half-assed version to get games for the launch. I excpect a bit more later this year. Still Carbon is a solid version compared to others, so somewhere inside EA, there's a solid coding team. As we can see from games released later 2006 or early 2007, or specifically tailored for the PS3, that they are more robust products. There is a lot to play comes march. Until then try out the ones available. Calling a gaming console a betamax player is just trolling in a bad way. Blu-ray is a nice piece of HD heaven and of course I like it. Who wouldn't? If your tv is up to the standards, then I say go for it. Buy the damn blu-ray version. I bet you will not be disappointed and feel that the argument "dvd is enough for me" is valid no more. And the games are still going to come in blu-ray even if you don't want to watch the movies, so what's the point in arguing about adding a blu-ray in the console? Price? True, but it's still damn cheap addition. PCPS3WiiX360 for me.
