Top two UK games - Image 1

Matt Martin of GamesIndustry.biz informs that despite a less than admirable UK launch, the software sales and the hardware sales - 165,000 units sold in the two days following the launch, a record better than the Wii's - for Sony's PS3 is doing quite well. Insomniac Games' Resistance: Fall of Man, and Evolution Studios' MotorStorm take the first and second spots respectively in the UK all-formats charts.

Codemasters' Brian Lara International Cricket 2007 got place third, Virtua Tennis 3 took the number 4 spot. Activision's Call of Duty 3 saw a boost from the PS3 and jumped from number 20 to number 5. GTA Vice City Stories ranks in at number six. The PS3 exclusive Formula 1: Championship Edition is seventh. The PC shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl is at eight. And finally, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 take ninth and tenth spots respectively.

Will this admirable performance continue into the next few weeks? Time will tell.

» Not doing so bad after all are you Sony?

I heard France's not buying it though, none the less this is pretty good news for the company considering both of the top games are made by them.

Is God of War 2 not out in the UK yet or something? How come I don't see that on the list?

» Spin to win

!65k console sold, sounds good. Ps3 outsold wii and 360 launches also sounds good. In reality, this is just spin, spin, spin.

Sony should have sold out, like the Wii did, and the 360 did at launch. 165K consoles sold out of 220K shipped, is sad. Sony Should have had a hayday in the UK.

And Comedy, there is no need to slag anything off. IT has been reported on many major new sites as Sony Spin, or trying to save face. Nothing to slag off, anyone with any common sence knows its just spin, its all over the bloddy net anyways.

» WHy should they

Why should they Gears outsold all those PS3 in the charts combined.

by Odd - 2007-03-27 07:08
» i dont get it

Why on earth is QJ net (among other guilty partys) repeated saying "dispite a disappointing launch" and some such? Shifting 165k consoles in 2 days if *****ing amazing going. And unlike the Wii and 360, it didnt even have to use the promise of christmas shortages to achieve it!

Why on earth is selling out of consoles the bench mark all of a sudden? So the 360 sold out, but only shipped 70k consoles and is considered a success, yet sony sell over double the figure in 2 days, but because people who want can still buy one (ie the console is STILL selling) people consider this a bad thing.

You're all *****ing nuts!

Will it hold out? Who knoes. I'm not saying that its a better console than the wii or the 360. I'm saying that the spin happening here is people trying to convince the public that not selling out at launch (inspite of shipping over 3 times the amount of consoles the 360 had).

If Sony were trying to spin this, all they'd have to say is "we shipped 220k, and the majoritory have been sold" (technically its true - but its spin).

It seems that Apple TV does not perform well on some HD TVs which should be fixed, because not everyone has bought a HD TV at home.
