Uh-oh? Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 development started only before E3 2009 |
Ó
Asked about the progress of the cross-platform development is going, producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed:
Up to the trial demo version that was released [in April] in Japan, [FFXIII] was PS3-only in terms of development... The Xbox 360 version is definitely following after the PS3 version, but [we] were finally able to come to a point in the PS3 development where some of the staff could take their hands off and start programming the Xbox 360 version.
Given that short span of time however, it appears that there's still not much to worry given that the team is using the Crystal Tools engine, which should at least make the porting process a tad bit more efficient and expedient.
Besides, the Xbox 360 version's looking good. Did you see its trailer from E3? Here:

It shouldn't as PS3 has had a bunch of 360 ports released at the same time.
Porting a game doesn't require the full development cycle, so just because they just started development now shouldn't mean anything as long as the PS3 stays on track.

Anyways this will come out on time. I'm just glad they're almost done with the game and can get started on trying to get a release date for Versus XIII and news for Kingdom Hearts 3.

When the battle ended you saw the summon keep attacking. I'd rather see some good death animations for the bosses and creatures. Something visual to tell us the battle is over, not just a rank screen while the battle continues in the background.
Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but I remember their previous games (like FFX) had some nice death animations.
I understand I'm going by one video and one boss but I hope its not like that for all of them.

well, from this video the PS3 version IS looking better. But the video has a very bad quality and the colors are bland. And don't forget that they just started the development, so they can definitely do something about it.

Nothing has changed here, the only difference is that there's now a 360 version. I've never believed the 360 version will make much difference to that delay, and given how quickly they put together that 360 demo because of the multi-format game engine, I'm even more convinced now that the 360 will not make much difference.
If FFXIII versus stays PS3 exclusive, I'm sure it will be the same old story from SE, which is Japan first, NA 5-6 months later, Europe many months after NA.

You can gaurentee if they paid Square to give up exclusivity with Sony, then they also paid for a simultaneous North America/Europe Launch.
If it's nearing completion for PS3, than we should see it come out in Japan Soon, as it's still exclusive there...

xophaser says "The PS3 version if they need to be shipped can be ship"
Really? And the English language voice over and subtitles will materialise all by themselves will they? ;) This is what has been the cause of the delay for ALL the previous FF games. They do the Japanese only version first, and once finalised, they THEN work on other languages. This has been one the biggest complaints about FF games for YEARS amongst gamers in the west, and yet somehow you guys now act as if it's something new.
At worse, the 360 could potentially add a _little_ to the delay of the NA release, but that's it. If you think there wasn't going to be delay to begin with, then you know very little about FF game releases of the past, and you know nothing about how gamers felt at the time.
And Shatterdome, FFXIII will ship on PS3 first in Japan, like all the previous games in the series. There's absolutely no evidence that MS paid for FFXIII on the 360, so the point about MS paying for a simultaneous release doesn't hold up either. So let's just deal with the facts, and when talking about rumour and speculation, treat them as being just that.

It is obvious by the crazy number of rpg's square has put out on 360. It is hard to say if MS is giving them some sort of "incentive" (which they have done in the past with devs, by footing the development bill on the game) Square could also just want to make more money and pump out as many games and sell them to as many people as possible. This could explain the overall crappyness of the RPG's square has put out on 360....

You mentioned incentive, well the biggest incentive any console company can other a games developer is the SIZE OF THEIR USER BASE. The 360 has a user base which is larger than the PS3's, and so it's much harder to ignore, and therefore makes 360 games development attractive to compaines like SE. That's the incensive.
If after the launch of the PS3, Sony's console quickly caught up to and surpassed slowing 360 sales, then I doubt we would have seen FFXIII and MGS:Rising coming to the 360, since there would have been less of an incentive to do so.
But for now, thanks for the discussion, I've got to go....
