When you have a video game whose sales have already exceeded 2.5 million units, it's not surprising to hear that game's developer talk about its success. In Assassin's Creed's (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) case, Ubisoft marketing director Adam Novickas discussed the steps that Ubisoft took to promote the game's success.

According to Mr. Novickas, Assassin's Creed was a calculated risk on Ubisoft's part, a leap of faith, if you will. Ubisoft's idea was to create an innovative, "sandbox" type of game that would pique gamer's curiosity and then encourage gamers to buy it via an intense marketing campaign. As Mr. Novickas put it:

One of the main goals of Assassin's Creed was to create an immersive game with a deep story, compelling characters and an authentic environment. We're very pleased with how it all turned out in the end.

What stood out in my mind was the overall integration of the entire marketing campaign, in particular the trailers and TV spots. Our trailers were just like movie style trailers so the audience could experience the depth and emotion of the game and get excited about playing it.

The question that may be burning in people's minds is: will there be a sequel? While there has been no official announcement from Ubisoft regarding an Assassin's Creed 2 yet, it would come as no surprise at all if Ubisoft were to do a repeat performance of the IP promotional formula that has so far served them in good stead.

Of course there's going to be a sequel. If you've played the game, it's practically a given that it will have a sequel, especially with what he's able to do at that time. (guys who finished this know what I'm talking about) I can't wait to see the next one. This game, although it got repetitive at some points was one adrenaline rush. C'mon, who doesn't get that feeling when the initial 5 guards chasing you becomes 20 all of a sudden?

Of course it's going to have a sequel, there's one achievement that literally says "there's going to be AC2". And I'm damn glad about it, I really enjoyed this game. Still have to kill the templars and collect the flags and I'm done.

I haven't finished AC yet, but thanks for the heads up. :)

If there's going to be a sequel, I'd like to see a selectable female counterpart to Altair. Maybe they could name her Jade or something, especially since her real life namesake has hinted at two-player co-op. XD

...all the side quests, his girlyfriend is alluded to in one of em' by an informant. Since she wasn't a part of this one and they made it a point of conflict with Altair, betcha this is a possibility.

... and yeah, there's obviously going to be a sequel. But not really looking forward to this HUGE FLAG HUNT. Even with online maps and guides these collection achievements are insane.

» IMO

this game did well because somehow they convinced R* to postpone GTA4. If GTA4 released on time (Oct 30), we would care if AC released a part 2. And, the article is misinformed...the question isn't whether there will be a AC2...of course there will. The questions are: After GTA4, will anyone care about AC2? Or, from another angle, does Jade's crew have the chops to one-up Rockstar?

» I do care...

GTA4 and AC might both be Sandbox games but that's where the similarities stop for me... I haven't heard anything that makes GTA4 more than just a renter for me so to anwer one of your "new two" - yes someone will care about AC2 after GTA4 releases.

...and since the games are so vastly different IMO I think the only thing Jade's team needs to one-up is the original AC.

As someone put it,

"The ending to Assassin's Creed is like in Star Wars, IF it had ENDED right BEFORE they blew up the death star."

lol...
