Ubisoft not sure what causes Assassin's Creed to crash

Since its release, Ubisoft Montreal's Assassin's Creed (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3) revealed plenty of bugs and glitches. With countless gamers sending their complaints online, developers promised to release a patch that will make the game more stable. We're not exactly sure when the update will go live, and according to a certain website that got a chance to talk to Ubisoft, it's because the company is still uncertain about what causes the game to crash.

Ubisoft senior public relations manager Michael Beadle told Popular Mechanics that the devs behind Assassin's Creed still don't know what's causing the glitches. The company saw a drop in complaints after gamers realized turning the PlayStation Network's auto-login feature made crashes less frequent on the PlayStation 3, but the quick fix is apparently not enough to make everyone happy.

Fortunately, Beadle reassures that Ubisoft is working on the patch using feedback from gamers and blogs. One community manager at the Assassin's Creed forums did mention an update for the game's Sony PS3 version being in the works, and we can see the same for the Xbox 360. Just keep those fingers crossed!

all the one i thought it's already fixed...

my first run through i had three freezes, two in memory block 5 and 1 in memory block 6... never encountered the "unplayable" framerate drops that everybody was talking about... didn't meet the Altair clone, and didn't go through walls and mountains either.

but since they brought out the patch i played the entire thing again, three full sessions of gaming (over the weekend and last night so that is a lot of straight gaming hours right there)... i collected all the the flags, saved all the citizens, did all the side investagation missions, cleared all viewpoints, run around the kingdom and everywhere (cause i was collecting flags)... basically did everything there is to do...

and i swear not a single freeze.

It's an odd bug this - I haven't had any of the weird issues (clones, screen tear, frame rate drop) but occasionally when loading, usually at the Assassins guild, the game crashes, or I get a message telling me the disc is dirty (trust me, it isn't - resetting and restarting without moving the disc works).

Even after the patch, the odd load fails. But it seems like a very smooth game to me when its running...

After a long haul of playing about 4-5 hours in one particular corner of uh.. Not Dalmascus or Jeruselum but the other one lol.. My framerate dropped fairly signifantly and wouldnt return until I was able to get out of that corner.

Unfortunately I was being chased by the guards at the time so I had to cope with it for a good 5-10 minutes.

Once I was able to save and reboot the system the problem disappeared.

the frame rate dropped a bit after a long haul but I noticed that it seems like you can clear your cache similar to Oblivion when you're loading the game at the start.

Fingerprints.

Apart from that and the pre-release Warhawk patch my PS3 experience has been jonny-on-the-spot.
