Splinter Cell: Conviction - Image 1

Rumor debunking time, now. it seems that Ubisoft has finally caught wind of some rumors regarding a PlayStation 3 version of Sam Fisher's upcoming adventure, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction (Xbox 360, PC) and decided to set the record straight. What's the final word, then? No, there isn't going to be any, and no, the game itself won't be coming out on April 1.

This statement comes directly from a spokesperson from Ubisoft, who revealed that it was simply a clerical error by UK specialist retailer GAME. The statement itself, verbatim:

This is just a mistake by the retailer. The game is not coming out on PS3 nor is it coming out on April 1. We're sticking to the original announcement.

Bad news, then, for those of us expecting to play as Sam Fisher on Sony's Cell Processor-powered console. Here's hoping that there won't be any more delays, at least.

WTF is happening at Ubisoft?!?!

First delay of Haze, now this!

And together with the cancellation of Frontlines, I begin to think that is normal for the companies to hate the PS3.

» lol

Are u serious? Have you played the previous SC game? Well I'll tell you this you can have this one while I'be playing Haze and something else (if you ever heard about it) MGS4...ok? Ok then!

by Acteon - 2008-01-23 22:41
» Too much effort?

Seems like there's a shift occurring where the profit from the PS3 market won't cover the conversion costs. And after the issues with Assassin's Creed, maybe Ubisoft are pulling out.

Uncharted proved that third parties can create incredible games for the PS3, obviously Ubisoft has neither the talent nor the inclenation to raise their game when they can make their money from other markets.

by Eclipze_ - 2008-01-23 23:00
» Yea...

We been knew about this like sometime last year. And yes I'd rather Mgs then SC anyday.

by Jin Wu - 2008-01-24 00:14
» Retarded Theories Abound

Conviction was never going to be on the PS3 when it was announced TWO YEARS AGO!! It was started BEFORE Assassin's Creed and was supposed to be out Holiday 2006.

And I'm sure no one remembers the laughable trailer of Fisher supposedly "hiding" in plain sight!?!!! Splinter Cell looked like crap then and I can't imagine it got better. It was ripping off AC then so I'm sure it won't be overwhelming now.

You guys disappoint me but one day I hope that you'll be able to remember something from later than last week.

by Yaz - 2008-01-24 00:49
» Hmmm

Personally, I much prefer the SC games over MGS (although I haven't played the last SC). But I can definately understand the mass appeal of MGS.

But yeah, we've always known this is only for PC and 360, but there's always the possibility of SC:C coming to the PS3 in future.

by Yaz - 2008-01-24 01:03
» Keep telling yourself that.

If it makes you feel better. ;)

That trailer for SC:C was far from laughable. Yes it was based on a very early build and therefore is in obvious need of optimization, but it definately shows a lot of promise.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/19867.html

Really, what's laughable about that? How does that look like crap?

And it's developement started before we saw AC for the first time, so I'm not sure where you got the 'ripping off' idea from.

"You guys disappoint me but one day I hope that you'll be able to remember something from later than last week."

You should look in the mirror first my friend. :)

Maybe this possibility is not needed for the ps3 anymore...

Ps3's lineup of 2008 will bury anything anyone can ditch out no question about that!

And believe me SC cannot compete with anything against games coming for the ps3 this year...of course this is all a matter of opinion right? I seriously cant figure out why you prefer this game over mgs...the scale the plot the visuals the sound the gameplay the history behind mgs is overwhelmingly outrageously far beyond anything we have seen or expect from a SC game...

Its like comparing a Bourne movie to Bond movie...

Anyway you should first play both and then decide. I've played and own all mgs games plus their spin offs and all SC games thats why I have such a strong opinion about this. You should probaly have a ps2 right? check these two franchises and decide for yourself...you''ll see what I'm talking about :)

wow, you all can be extremely entertaining. the bottom line is this - if you want the whole next gen experience then GET BOTH F*KING CONSOLES AND STOP TRYING TO PROVE WHICH ONE IS BETTER!!!

broke people piss me off

» WTF?

"Maybe this possibility is not needed for the ps3 anymore... Ps3's lineup of 2008 will bury anything anyone can ditch out no question about that!"

Anymore? It NEVER was 'needed' for the PS3. It's a game, from a great game series imo, but SC is not a system seller.

As for the PS3's 2008 lineup. I'm not interested in yet another one of your pointless console wars. I'm simply giving my OPINION on what I think about two game series, nothing more, nothing less. See if you could manage to do the same without trying to turn it into something else for a change.

If you can't see why someone would prefer SC over MGS, then I'm not going to waste time trying to 'prove' it to you, because opinions are not about proof, and they are not about right or wrong! Unlike you however, I can understand why others will prefer MGS over SC, because I accept there are elements of BOTH series which will appeal to some gamers more than others.

I could happily list the aspects of each series that I like and don't like, but unfortunately Constantinecy, you're far too defensive to participate in such a discussion without assuming there's an alterior motive (hence you rushed to the PS3's defence because I 'dared' to perfer SC over MGS...*gasp*).

by Yaz - 2008-01-24 02:30
» Er-hem.

"You should probaly have a ps2 right? check these two franchises and decide for yourself...you''ll see what I'm talking about :)"

I've played enough of both series to make a decision on which I prefer. And it may surprise you that there are people out there who prefer Bourne to Bond. :)

Heck, I may even find out later that I prefer MGS4 to SC:C, but I'll only find out when the games have been released and I've played enough of both to judge, but as of now, it's SC over MGS for me. that's not something to question, that's something to accept.

So like I said, stop being so defensive all the time. :)

by Yaz - 2008-01-24 02:33
» Come now

Many of the gamers around here who have one console CAN afford another if they wanted it.

I agree that gamers should stop trying to prove one is better than the other, but likewise, you should stop assuming gamers don't have both because they can't afford it! :|

» Oh and btw guys,

If I appear to rant, I'm sorry, it's been one of those days. >:-(

by scarface_tha_second - 2008-01-24 04:06
» Yaz is right about that one...

I have the money to buy a 360. Much like I had the money buy an original Xbox (or a cube for that matter, but I will not even compare Cube here cause Wii is much better).

I will never do it though :). That is unless MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, GTAIV and Resident Evil 5 all decide to go exclusive to Microsoft. As long as the greatest games get released for both, why the hell would I buy a 360?

by Eclipze_ - 2008-01-24 08:17
» Yaz

I really think your the one on the defensive because he said "of course its all a matter of opinion right?" He just gave his opinion just like you gave yours. Not trying to be mean but you jumped on him for nothing.

by Eclipze_ - 2008-01-24 08:27
» Yaz

That actually looked kind of laughable to me.. Dosnt look like the sneaking type of splinter cell. Its true that this game over 2 years ago was announced to be only on the 360 and PC, and I havent heard any rumors AT ALL about the game coming to the PS3.

"You should look in the mirror first my friend. :)"

You must be having a bad day or somthing cause that joke was really wack..

Yaz jumped on him for nothing? Didn't you read the posts? Or did you just skim over the bits you want to read? Seriously.

All yaz said was that he preferred SC over MGS but he can see why others think MGS is great, and constantinecy responce to that was to go on about how great the PS3's 2008 lineup was (which had nothing to do with yaz's post) and how SC can't compete with anything on the PS3 this year (again nothing to do with yaz's post).

Strange how you conveniently ignore constantinecy's knee-jerk defensive comments and yet you jump all over yaz's response to him.

» Eclipze_

"That actually looked kind of laughable to me.."

It looks great to me.

"Dosnt look like the sneaking type of splinter cell."

It isn't suppose to be like the previous games!!!! Try reading up about the game first. Saying it's laughable becuase it's not like the previous SC games is rather silly and lazy.

Sorry, but I sometimes like your posts eclipze_, but I think yaz is spot on right now.

I wasn't defencive I simply stated my opinion nothing more nothing less...You are the defensive one here and you realised it yourself ' If I appear to rant, I'm sorry, it's been one of those days. >:-( '

So please dont patronise me ok?

Instead try to discuss first and then call others incapable of participating in a discussion please change your attitude!

And to unregistered gamer what is your problem? I think your problem is the ps3's 2008 lineup thing i said right? Why because MAYBE you only have a 360 (thats right I'm quessing not saying)? Go buy a ps3 and chill out ok? I did not jump Yaz the jumping is his kind of thing not mine if you were a regular here you would know that...

by Tball - 2008-01-24 16:02

Does anyone care if this doesnt drop for the PS3? The Splinter Cell series sucks anyway!

Are you like defending the Yaz dude. Everytime someone respond back to Yaz you go at the one that's responding.

by Naroon Kasui - 2008-01-24 16:52

Meh, I never liked SC to be honest. Most of the games are identical anyway, and there are far more games to choose from than this one.

A lot of companies like EA, Valve, Ubisoft, THQ, and a few others, are just lazy devs who don't want to take the time to learn how to properly work with the Cell. No wonder Ken Kutaragi left...the PS3 is in trouble and he knew it would be like this...im a diehard Sony fan but wow, the PS3 is going through rough times right now.

by Unregistered Gamer - 2008-01-24 20:03
» Sure my friend

"So please dont patronise me ok?"

He didn't patronise you, he was just being right.

"And to unregistered gamer what is your problem?"

The fact that you jumped to the PS3's defence despite the fact that it wasn't under attack. So yes, you were being defensive.

"Why because MAYBE you only have a 360 (thats right I'm quessing not saying)? Go buy a ps3 and chill out ok?"

Don't complain about people patronizing you by patronizing others yourself. The old line of "I bet you've only got console XXXX" is a classic one used by those who have no real counter arguemente. So go on, explain why you responded to yaz by telling him how great the PS3 will be this year and how nothing can touch it!

"I did not jump Yaz the jumping is his kind of thing not mine if you were a regular here you would know that.."

I'm regular enough around here to see that Yaz make's good comments most of the time here. He's not perfect (no-one is, not even you :-P), but I find him mostly unbiased (he attacks PS3 and 360 fanboys, and supports whichever console is under attack). I say mostly because I do feel he leans ever so slightly towards MS (appears to attack PS3 fanboys more imo).

But as for you, it's always been clear where your bias lies Constantinecy, and it's very much towards Sony, to the point of defending them even if there's only the slightest chance that a comment *might* be directed towards them. So with SC games associated with MS (despite being on the PS) and MGS games associated with Sony (despite MGS2 on the XBox), someone favouring SC over MGS might, just might, be interpreted as a shot against Sony to YOU. So better not take any chances right? Must defend Sony at all costs, hence your post above. *rolleyes*

by Unregistered Gamer - 2008-01-24 20:22
» blkthunda

Yes I am defending him, because I think he was right here (and I like his posts), and I gave my reasons above.

I'm not a regular poster around here, but I am a regular reader. Like everyone else, you get to know people posting on a forum you regularly read. So for good and for bad, certain posters stand out, whether it's for making great comments, or for being fanboys or trolls, or whatever, they stand out. Eclipze_ stands out (Sony bias imo, but in a good way, and so a good poster), Constantinecy stands out (also Sony bias, but somewhat anti-MS too), Yaz stands out (I spoke about him above), Mister Common Sense (reformed Sony hater who was once one of the most annoying posters here), Stealth! (very pro-Sony, fights to hide his anti-MS feelings), I know you too, Dvsdevice and even from the past Vietone (remember him anyone?), Broken_hero, KnowLedge and many others.

Naturally, some may or may not agree with the opinions I've expressed about them, but that's how they appear to me.

So when I do post, it'd not as a noob who knows nothing about those I'm replying to.

Ok, I've gone way off topic now, so I'll stop typing, but I'll still be reading.
