Ubisoft cancels Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway

Ubisoft cancels Brothers-in-Arms: Hell's Highway? - Image 1It looks like Gearbox and Ubisoft's Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC) won't be making it even to its expected (already delayed) release date next year. Xbox Family reports that the publisher has cancelled the development of the title, although they have yet to explain the exact cause for the axing.

This announcement is made all the more surprising given that just a few days ago, Gearbox stated that they were readying Hell's Highway's beta build for release. Then again, considering the history of Ubisoft with sudden cancellations, maybe we shouldn't be that surprised at all if this turns out true.

Remember what happened to Half Life for the Sega Dreamcast back then? The game did go all the way to gold status, and in fact already had the full marketing brouhaha, complete with guidebooks sold in stores. And then just like that, it went kaput in 2001.

*Shivers* Oh, but we really hope this one's a fluke! We'll let you know if we can find more information explaining what exactly is going on.

Awww, son of a *****! The only real WW2 game I've been looking forward to has been canceled. This is bullcrap. They better have a good reason for this!

That really sucks. BIA looked way better than MOH, and with all the gameplay video's I've seen, it seemed to be more technical as well...which I've liked.

With COD going modern, I was really looking forward to this one.

No source or letter posted in that link. This must be false, a well known franchise isn't stopped a few months before it's release.

Gearbox released some new screenshots of bia today. They would never do that if the game would have been cancelled. http://www.gamershell.com/pc/brothers_in_arms_hell_s_highway/screenshots.html

I call shenanigans! There hasn't been any press release on the issue, and a single site getting "confirmation" is a little lame.

Maybe it was canceled. This is really odd, it's been a while since something like this happened. Very spontaneous... I was sorta looking forward to this game. Perhaps one of the better WWII games out there...

Here's a topic on the Gearbox forums which has posts from people who work on the game, confirming this is false:

http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t+65822+page+3

The post is at the top of the page. DuvalMagic is the CEO of Gearbox, and he says:

"I don't remember cancelling the game.

That website is lame. Someone should be flogged and then sacked."

Haha, the website he is referring to is actually QJ.net, for even mentioning this stupid rumor. Check the first page, the topic creator linked to this article on QJ

# QJ, please fix the plus sign thingMaster Chef 2007-09-24 13:18
To whoever wants to view the topic, you need to change all the plus signs in the URL into equals signs. And for some reason, it still won't start on page 3, just click page 3 and there's the post

That XboxFamily has posted an update. Click on the link to XboxFamily above, and under latest news is an entry titled "Brother's in Arms still on". The author of the article has had "action taken against him". People can stop worrying now

I guess they're right, that this is a hoax. Who the hell has heard of XBoxFamily.com before, anyway? I'd trust a site like IGN or GameSpot a hundred times more than some unknown site looking to gain popularity by spreading false rumors.
