Turning Point: Fall of Liberty devs search for Mario Contasino's descendants |
Ó
Codemasters has launched a manhunt for Mario Contasino's descendants. Wait, who's Mario Contasino?
Codemasters and Spark Unlimited's upcoming video game, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty explores an alternate reality where Winston Churchill dies after getting run over by a car in December 13, 1931. The car, apparently, was driven by none other than Mario Contasino.
Now do the math (or the history): Churchill never becomes Prime Minister and never rallies the Allied forces to defeat the Axis. That's pretty dire, especially in Turning Point: Fall of Liberty since the Axis forces decide to take the war to this side of the Atlantic after decimating the UK.
Considering what would have happened if Churchill died from the accident, you'd think the name of the driver, Mario Contasino (then an unemployed mechanic), would be big in the history books. Well it is, but it's just not as big as the name Winston Churchill.
Codemasters has launched a search for Contasino's descendants to honor them "for providing the inspirational Turning Point" in the game. The publisher has drafted historian David McCarthy to help with the search and is calling for information regarding the descendants of Contasino. Richard Eddy, Director, Communication, Codemasters commented:
You try Googling it – there’s really very little to go on. It clearly wasn’t that big a deal at the time, but that one moment could have changed everything. The game imagines a world without Churchill – a chilling vision of what might have been. We want to officially recognise the Contasino family for providing us with the inspiration for Turning Point: The Fall of Liberty. The game will hopefully remind those why Winston Churchill is rightly regarded as one of the most important people of the 20th Century.
In case you want to keep track of this hunt, you can check out the via link below. Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) will be on the shelves by the end of February.

HA! I beat you both. I found a living descendant to Mario Contasino the character who kills Churchill in their story. I found Him and emailed the info to Codemasters. I hope I win a prize.
