Trend Micro offers Web Security for the PS3

So, how well do you know your PS3 FW 2.0? Good news to those who are getting into the habit of surfing the Internet through a gaming console: it's none other than Trend Micro, one of the leaders in Internet security software, who's offering the online security service implemented on the PlayStation 3 FW 2.0. Trend Micro's free trial for the Web Security will continue until the end of April next year when the free trial ends.

As for more details, Trend Micro's Web Security for the PS3 offers the following services: blocking of malicious and harmful websites, blocking of websites based on "web reputation" and URL filtering. It's a very useful tool, especially for those who now prefer to surf the internet using their next-gen consoles. We just wish that other consoles will follow suit and offer a similar function as well.

I think its just to block phising sites and stuff.

You still can't, that i know of, on a ps3. Someone would need to write code and make it install itself on the ps3. Only sony could really do that....

in theory its possible for anything that connects to the net to be exploited.



So in theory it would be possible for any of the new consoles to get viruses or some sort of malicious code

why a defragtool? windows only needs it cuz bill likes to slow computers down after a while... and as for the viruses, i dont think there will ever be any. only "virus" type i can see affecting the ps3 is some movie or some code in some file that locks up the ps3

Do you know what a defrag tool is? If you did then you should be in favor of one too. Also yeah you could get a virus on the PS3 in the future. If someone works hard to make one I can see them stealing account info, games, and possibly making the PS3 unusable. This is why I think Sony needs to work hard to come up with a solution before it happens. It would benefit them in the long run do to the fact if people can't use their PS3 or rely on their security, that their sales would go down some.
