Tiscali blocking P2P, EVE, CoD4, Quake Wars multiplayer? |
Ó

Word is that loyal subscribers of Tiscali's broadband ISP service in the UK are being blocked from accessing certain sites, as well as P2P (peer-to-peer) services, during certain times of the day. Some have also complained that overall access throughput has been degraded during such hours, though others complain having intermittent problems in other parts of the day.
Gamer complaints include connectivity issues to servers running EVE Online, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (on PS3), and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (assumed on PC). Some Sony PlayStation 3 users have also complained that they cannot access the PlayStation Network, denying them of updating their console on time or any online activity.
Information gathered from the service's forums suggest that Tiscali is still investigating the problems and trying to figure out what could be the cause. As of press time, there is no official word on the matter of P2P blocking. So for now, this'll run under rumors until the air clears.
There seems to be a growing dissent among the subscribers, however, and some even have claimed that Tiscali is in breach of contract for exercising port and service blocking. More information to come as developments roll by.
Many thanks to Eggyclaw for the tip!

Comcast was attempting to curb P2P data across its network by routinely sending false server disconnect messages, but this ended up blocking various Google sites and created a huge headache for a lot of people.
the problem that i've got, when the ps3 first came out in the uk i couldn't even log in to the playstation network, thats how bad it was. then for whatever reason i can now, but i can't get on COD4, GH3 or Proving ground after 4pm (GMT) and can't get back on until 11pm. This problem has been going on for a long time now and needs to be sorted out.
Glad I don't live in the u.k.,I would have a 360 there so it still wouldn't effect me even if I did.
If your having issues with your broadband connection like this, then why not move to a new isp. You simply beed to obtain a pac code (i think thats what its called).
id recommend www.eclipse.net.uk as a good provider. Theres no tie in, you just pay month on month if you like.
Also have you guys tried checking what shows up when you do test network connection? If it shows type 3 you need to open up a port on your router, or enable netwok plug and play. it should ideally show type 1 or 2. Its all in the online instructions.
finnaly anyone else experienced odd behavior with video chat. me and my mates got oursleves ps eye's (40 quid in game, with a copy of eye of judgement). anyway for some reason my outgoing video feed doesn't update, though its fine for my m8's are are also with eclipse as their isp. if i hide and then show my video it updates but then only once.
i've since upgrade by isp package as i was still on an old limited package with slow upstream, but not retested it since. i was getting 2meg down, 200up previously.
Where as my new package is getting me abouy 6meg/350.
Any ideas?
smart move from tiscali, they will lose a lot of users with this.
Poor people in the UK, always getting limits on their games and such, also getting some of great games later than us in the US and those in Japan.
This, however, is a problem easily fixed: switch ISP
anyway i would change ISP but my dad pays for my internet and these problems don't affect him so there's no chance that i'll be able to change.
