Tip: You can evade the censors for RFoM |
Ó
Over at the NeoGAF forums, Bebpo wrote about one of the issues facing Insomniac Games' Resistance: Fall of Man. Specifically, he talked about how the game gets censored automatically depending on what kind of PS3 you play the game on, and how you can get past that little inconvenience. Here's the situation. Some PS3 games with multiple languages placed into it, such as Resistance, can be played on American or Japanese PS3s. If you play Resistance on a Japanese PS3, however, the game is automatically censored to fit or evade Japan's Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO) scrutiny.
If you've got a Japanese PS3, you would have to contend with not getting all the gory deliciousness you want. Hardcore gamers, of course, will not settle for anything less than the best.
To get around this, Bebpo offers two ways to get past it:
1. Import the US version of the game in question (less convenient) and download a starting save from anyone in the US (super easy to get) (aka, the person turned on the game, created a save [maybe saved if necessary at first save point] and turned it off) and load that save. You should then be playing the uncensored version that US players are playing.
2. Buy the domestic JPN version (convinient)and find a starting save from SOMEONE with a US system + JPN version of game in question (this could be really hard for something like God of War; why would anyone in the US have a JPN version), load it and then play the uncensored version the US players are playing.
It doesn't sound very easy, of course, but enterprising hunters and forumgoers who own Japanese versions of Sony's console should be able to find the appropriate workaround depending on their circumstances. It hasn't been tested for other games that have censorship (such as Untold Legends) but we'll try and get more info on it when it arrives. In the meantime, let us know which games end up censored for you and which PS3 unit type you have, so we can keep a running record.

I have a Japanese PS3 and Japanese Resistance and it's true. But using the workaround mentioned in the news, you can have blood and all the gore in the game. Just ask someone for a savegame made in US PS3 with a Japanese Resistance.
xche78x: No, it doesnt work like that I'm afraid. It has nothing to do with parental controls. see above.
