Time Warner doubts Blu-Ray but... |

Time Warner Corporation is one of the bigger and more known media conglomerates around. During these past few years, the company has definitely set its eyes on the booming gaming industry. It would be remembered that they recently acquired gaming site Joystiq through AOL.It is interesting to note how Time Warner is viewing not just the new-gen wars, but the technological race between Microsoft and Sony. In simpler and less business-like terms, that means they have been watching the competition between media formats HD DVD and Blu-Ray.
And now, you wonder what is Time Warner's take in all of these. During a recent Credit Suisse media and Telecom conference in New York, company CEO Richard Parsons was in attendance. He generally talked about which direction Time Warner is heading, with emphasis given on their Internet division. When asked about their format preference, Parsons explained:
Do I think that the game console platform is really going to drive the conversion? I don't think so. People get those things to play games, not watch movies.
Ouch... What's with the attitude, man? Anyway, the official then expressed his doubts about Sony's hope of winning the race. He reiterated that public acceptance is the key for Sony to be able to position the PS3 as the all-in-one living room solution. However, it is curious to note that Time Warner is currently supporting both the HD DVD and the Blu-Ray format. Now that's what I call a fence sitter...

you bought a ps3 and you own an HD tv outputting 1080p.
okay, 1st, your lucky lol.
but second: If you wanna buy a movie, for about the same price, would you buy a DVD or a BD ?
and 3rd: if you wanna rent a movie, and they have it in blue-ray, and you own a ps3, will you rent it on BD or in DVD?
finally, now we can see that if the blue-ray cost more, maybe some will pay a little more for res. and some won't, but everybody would rent a BD instead of a DVD if they have a ps3, dah, even if they don't have a 1080p TV because it's the same as a dvd ( if you don'T have 1080p ) with a LOT of bundled stock
So this guy is stupid! end of lesson!

Ok, i can totally understand the stance that hes taking.
First. HD-DVDs are out selling BR at about 10-1. Every Blueray i have seen has been a pour encode vs the HD-dvd counterpart. And given past history where sony always has the superior format but has always lost ther format war; i can see where he is coming from. There is a reason he is in the position hes in.
Heres a quote to live your life by.
Steve jobs "Are stuff is better!"
Bill gates "That doesnt matter"
There is also a much better supply of 360 HD-DVD addons than PS3 available. So where do you think the market share is??

Secondly if you own a PS3 and an HDTV your going to be buying blu-ray. If you own a 360 and an HDTV you will only consider the add-on, and since it doesn't even have HDMI support you will probably consider it less.
Numbers now will not be the same a year from today, that is for certain. The PS3 will be a huge proponent of BD. When there will be millions of PS3 owners that also means there will be millions of blu-ray player owners (we are talking in a year or less). Blu-ray stands a very good chance. This isn't like any of Sony's other format attempts because for once it's starting with a huge backing.

do you mean shortage? before you can watch HD with ps3 you need a expensive LCD or plasma TV which i would say 20% or less of the population have, and you have to huy a damn HDMI... with the 360 HD-DVD (if you choose to buy it) you will get HD content by plugging in to component or VGA and connect to TV or LCD monitor and enjoy HD content.. seriously though, do you see a difference with p vs i?

HDMI cables can be bought for as low at $27 at your local Target or Walmart as well. If you go online you can get them for even cheaper prices.
BD movies don't force you to have 1080p or nothing also. So you can enjoy a HD movie even on a 720p set.
And yes it will have a strong backing once more PS3s are in the country and like I said millions of people have blu-ray players (PS3s).
And you can notice a difference in p vs. i in movies especially when there is a lot more happening on the screen, but it all depends if you care to have that much more of an experience or not really.
Also the PS2 component cables work on the PS3.

So yes, people buy the systems for the games, not the movies, but as long as they have the capacity built-in, they're going to buy the movies as well.
