Three brothers pre-order individual PS3s, get shafted accordingly? |
Well, everyone's entitled to an opinion, and we're sure open to what you think was right or wrong about this next situation first reported by the fine folks at Gamers Reports. It's about pre-orders and stopping a potential riot, depending on how people word it. We'll try and tread carefully here so that we can get a balanced view from you guys.
Here's the tale. Three brothers who live in different homes with their own families want to pre-order PS3s for their households. GameStop's notices on pre-ordering PS3s say that reservations are limited to one household.
By definition, "household" refers to either a family or a group of otherwise unrelated people who live together under the same roof, so this should be okay, right? These three brothers wait outside their local GameStop, first three in line as well, and pre-order their individual consoles. They also explained to the person taking care of the pre-orders that they lived in different houses, with their driver's licenses as proof.
The next day presents a problem, however. GameStop emails them, saying that they're unable to allow the brothers to order more than one unit. We'll let them speak from here:
I asked to speak with his boss, a district manager named Courtney, she informed me that the policy extends not only to the same household but also to family members but if you look at the image below it clearly states “household” not “family.” I asked her why she changed the policy afterwards and she hit me with the best line I’ve heard in a while, “We want to make as many people happy as possible, we will honor only one per family."
Whether or not this account is true, it does beg the question, "Does household = family?" What do you think about the whole situation?

anyone who miss their chance yesterday, this is the good time to check your local store again for preorder cancellations. hehe.
too bad for resellers and family ordering in one store. do you think the result would be different if those 3 brothers reserved their orders in 3 separate store? what do you guys think?
That's complete bull, completely shafting their customers, they live in differen homes ffs, and they have to share their console between 3 houses? That is utter crap. I feel sorry for em, unless they were gonna sell em on EBay that is. ;)
there are crazy worker who know nothing. the costumers are right. doesn't the store want to sell. boo gamestop and ebgames. never shop there, they will rip you off in trade, price, used open games. games should be in there case sealed up , if game is opened then it should be lesser value then regular. stock market went down 3 points yeah
this was a post by one of the brothers, and one of the brothers only. now i think that they had the right to reserve one for each different address regardless of last name. but what is the other side of the story, did the head office find an ebay auction for each of the systems, were they talking about not keeping a single one in line or at the store? there must be a reason that this happened. it could have been handled a bit better, clearer definition of "household", deny the pre-order before the sale is finished ect. i just wonder about the other side of the story. just consider this; two brothers are playing one accadently gets hurt, the injured one is the only one to speak up, what is the truth of the situation?
Well is still Bull***** because If they had the Guts"Cojones" In my Cuban way, To Actualy tell them that information that they live in separate homes and what not, then They where been truthfull they read the damn Print,!
Good job eb/gamstop.
So, If I order one. And my brother who lives 100 miles away orders one we will be told were related and cant have one.
Or If I order one. And my cousin orders one we will again be told we cant have one.
This is crap, Were different people in different towns. Just because were related. How far down the family tree does this new family policy extend.
BS gamestop, BS!
I am the only one in my household, family, or even group of friends who preorderd a PS3.
They forgot to take my email down and they seemed shotty on all the questions I had for them, I really do not trust them at all.
I said so when I come to the store will I be able to go to the front of the line right before you open? They said "there will be no line" because the only availible units are for you 4 right here.
I was number 1 in line and when i went in they cash register guy answered the phone and the next cashier started ringing up number two from line. I said "EXCUSE ME!, Can I go first, I was first in line!" She said "oh it doesnt matter because you guys are the only ones who will be getting one of the first batch" I said I dont care please ring me up I waited a long time I want to be number one."
So she did, and number 2 in line was more than happy to step back and comply. (its only fair right?) I tried to quickly run the transaction as shrotly thereafter number 2 jumped to the other cashier again and started processing...
Anyhow I know I am probably paranoid but they dont understand!!!! What if the shipment gets cut in half and only the first 4 get one. What if there is only 4 premium units shipped!? They dont care?!
OMG I was freaking out and am still worried its all gonna be cool.
I know they are just retail monkies and it shows. They have no idea of common sense.
So on the right of the date on my receipt it says I am 004, I assume this is number 4 technicaly, this is what people have been saying anyways.... and I was 1st in line waited for 3 hours.
So in the next few days I am gonna wander back there and revisit my questions. I'll probably end up going to the store 30min to an hour early on launch day too, just because the GS employees couldn't answer my questions at ALL and just made wild assumptions it seems.
thats bullshyt, they all live in different HOUSEHOLDS! they should be allowed to get one each. wtfs the point of only being able to have one when they dont even live together?
Scared preorder dood, I would recommend getting there early. The reason being no doubt in shipment a few units could get damaged and if the folk in the shop get first dibs on the good units whoever comes in last will no doubt get teh worst of the bunch. Its like getting the last doughnut in the shop, its last for a reason.
Just pray it works when you get home as there is no way anyone will have any stock for spares.
From a legal stand-point. I have yet to see PROOF that these Junkyard Jimmy Rednecks actually live in separate households. Personally, I bet you that these three QUEERS tried to pull a fast one like people on the xbox 360 launch. Man, I remember that launch... They had mothers', fathers', grandmothers', sisters', brothers', cousins.... all standing out in line to better their chances of getting a console. I SAY ARREST THEM ALL for being a bunch of jobless idiots! Anyone who can sit outside a store for 24 hours in advance of a launch on a weekday deserves to be jailed because they obviously do not work and are just leeching off the American Welfare System. SO screw those 3 brothers! I hope they get nothing.
Lets hope that they like to share the playstation 3.
Sorry Everyone...
SO SORRY!!!
Instead of sitting around a store for 24 hours... "Campin' out" like a damn hobo, I was getting laid!!! Which is probably what some of you should be doing instead of obsessing over a useless gaming system! (Plus it's been over-rated by sony once again, just wait until it comes out!)
Man, Gamestop is really getting on my nerves. First no PS3 or Wii pre-orders. Now we have PS3 pre-orders but with this garbage. The pre-order system needs to be first come first serve. No exceptions. Get with the program gamestop.
American Heritage Dictionary - Cite This Source house·hold (houshld) Pronunciation Key
n.
A domestic unit consisting of the members of a family who live together along with nonrelatives such as servants.
The living spaces and possessions belonging to such a unit.
A person or group of people occupying a single dwelling: the rise of nonfamily households.
adj.
Of, relating to, or used in a household: household appliances.
Commonly known; familiar: has become a household name.
"In short, they got screwed, I would call a lawyer."
I don't believe this is the company policy, but rather the store managers policy.
What if they are adult brothers with their own family? So all their kids have to share the PS3. This is absurd and just proves that anyone could be a manager at Gamestop/EB. If I were those three brother I would sue Gamestop. There has to be some out of court settlement there. (only in America) This crap really pisses me off.
I'm lucky my grandparents don't play PS3 because I would be so F****d!!

You suck!! Who gives a F if you get laid or not. Only people who don't get laid brag about getting laid. I got pre-order and no I didn't camp out like a hobo. You talk about us obsessing as is discussing civil rights is something bad. What is sad is you obsessing over getting laid as if we wanted to visualize you Wii-chuck getting it on with some worthless scab. Go screw your mom dude, you pathetic loser.
if my sis who lives 300 miles away from me pre orderd one and i pre ordered one than one or possibly both of our pre orders could get cancelled just because we have the same last name and the same parents? What kinda bull sh17 is that!!!
I agree with you to an extent. I mean, that's the main reason why I wasn't able to preorder one, because it was on a f***in Tuesday morning. wtf I had to go to work and so did most people. But that's ok because I'm still getting one on launch day. I got a friend that's a manager a major retail store and he's gonna get it and at an employe discount lol
If it really is just a gaming console then what the hell are you doing on this forum posting comments. You're full of s**t.
they want more than one family enjoying the product. Good job for Game Stop for putting thier foot down.
They did not forget to take your email. There is no reason to take it, and I don't know why the one in the article did. I work at a gamestop and all they need for a preorder is your name and number.
ALSO, I don't know about these notices, but I have never seen one. I know that at my GameStop, your place in line when you preordered is your place in line when the PS3s arrive. You don't have to wait in line again, as your Gamestop should hold it for 48 hours.
These brothers should have done their research. When the 360 was about to come out, Gamestop went through all their reserves, and searched based on name, number, or address, and cancelled all but one.
Take Gamestop to Judge Judy, then we can all see watch the outcome!
That makes no sense. They were cleared robbed and not only get their money back but a system as well. Take the mofos to court or put them on those news shows that put people who rip people off on blast on local or nationwide TV and see what happens from there.
how do we kno the brothers story isnt slightly altered. for all we kno gameestop probably flagged them due to 3 of them having the same last name while being at the same store at the same time, they wont consider a drivers liscence as a way to vaildate an adress since most ppl if not all use alternate adresses on them to avoid adding drivers in the households car policy and pay less. im sure gamestop was either told by the managers or did ivenstiagting on their own, saw that 3 ppl of the same last name pruchased at that store consecutivly in a row, and most likely maybe their credit card billing adresses are the same atleast in 2 of the 3 brothers. i seriously doubt gamestop cancelled them for the reason mentioned or they would be sued.
I was lucky to pre order mine when the store open up. The manager told everyone in line that they had only 10 pre order spots. the guys who were 11,12,13,14, in line didnt order. The next day My friend called and was told they had reserved 16 total. I called and was told the same thing. Then I had another friend call and he was told they had taken 16 reservation???. So did they keep the six? or did they hold them for friends who didnt want to wait all night? any way its wrong. that the 4 people didnt get theres after waiting so long. also now if you ask how many . a
the policy is the policy so if they wanted to resale them it there business they live in 3 diffent homes. so Gamestop was wrong.
if they honestly followed the stores policy then they should get all three regardless if the plan to resale
Ok so if this guys can prove they live on different addresses and their credit cards go to different billing addresses, the only thing they have to do is to get a copy of the EB/Gamestop statement; where it specifies that only one unit per "household" can be purchased, get a lawyer, let the lawyer get a hold of "Weights and Measures" (this guys are the cops when it comes to pricing or complains about retail stores) and you will not have to worry about not being on the preorder list, since you are going to have enough money to buy more than 3 PS3's on Ebay with several games, extra add-ons, etc.
Capisci? or should I say: capiche? (Do you understand?). $$$
we ordered two this morning at the Canadian launch under with two brothers living in different households. I can't see them screwing us because we discussed it all while we were there and the location is very small but who knows, If my two buddies get jacked, I want to take their place on their list as I would've been next in line.
Courtney needs to put down the crack pipe
