Add THQ's Brian Farrell to the list of people expecting a price cut for the Sony PlayStation 3. The THQ CEO said during the company's Q4 and year-end earnings call that they do expect Sony to announce a price drop for the black behemoth, but not during E3.

"We're not expecting a [PS3] price cut at E3, but we do expect one later in the year, said Farrell. "Thats just our guessÂ… [and] not based on any knowledge from Sony."

A lot of publishers and developers have already said their piece regarding a PS3 price cut these past few months, but Sony has been rather adamant about keeping the PS3 at its current price point.

» Hmm...

Isn't/wasn't manufacture of the 45nm CellBB and RSX chip to begin this year, as well as their incorporation into the PS3?

I predict a price cut "later" based on the smaller CellBB and RSX manufacturing. Due to them being smaller, they'll be cheaper to manufacture as well as using less voltage. Less voltage is already a win but coupled with less heat... :)

» Finally...

This is a rumor which I personally feel holds some truth. IF sony is to cut the PS3's price at all this year, it will be VERY late Q3, or early Q4. Same as Xbox last year. If anything, where is the outcry for a Wii price cut? I'd consider buying one if they lowered the price $75-100 USD.

» yes but

With info on the components out and Sony looking to start making money with the system... it's still iffy.

If price for the items within the PS3 is just not breaking the mark that they sell it for, if dropping $100, they'd loose that break even snap and be back to loosing money. I honestly think that dropping it will sell more and thus more software and such but w/e, just how sony thinks I guess.
