We've been wowed by the promise of Fatal Inertia vehicles - dizzying speed, fastest acceleration, and superior handling. But having the fastest and meanest car is not enough to survive the futuristic hover racing game developed by Koei using the Unreal Engine 3. You need a set of weapons to outmaneuver and outrace opponents and send them crashing to the ground.

Fatal Inertia has eight different weapons that can be picked up during a race. Get to know them and start planning out your strategy before the game launches on November 17.

Magnets

magnetsAs the name suggests, this type of weapon causes other ships to be attracted toward your target like a homing beacon. It's very useful when you find yourself being sandwiched by rivals. Shoot a magnet to a pesky vehicle and watch it veer away from your vehicle. These magnets add weight of rival vehicles making it much difficult for pilots to steer their ships.

Cluster Bombs

cluster bombs
Equipped with proximity sensors, each cluster bomb has 10 magnets that fly out toward opponents upon detonation. They fly in straight line so it takes a lot of aiming skills to get the bomb close enough to your target.

Rockets
rockets
Of course, rockets are staple weapons in any battle involving ships. They are essentially magnets with rocket boosters that can cause other vehicles to spin out of control. It's pretty standard feature, but it also allows players to drop rockets onto their own tail to give a massive burst of speed.

Force Shield

force shield
This protects your ship from all forms of attack, albeit temporarily. And while you feel safe when the force shield is activated, you have to remember that it deactivates your other weapons.

Smoke Screen
smoke screen
This is one effective way to obscure the vision of enemies behind you. With just the right timing, you can send rivals crashing into a wall, just cause they have zero visibility.

EMP

The EMP temporarily incapacitates electronic devices within immediate vicinity. This means ships will drop to the ground because their hovering capabilities will be deactivated. What's more, it disengages all weapons in the vicinity, allowing you to race on without being attacked.

Force Blast

A powerful wave of energy will knock off rival ships and weapons. It also gives you a momentary burst of speed to your ship.

Time Dilator
time dilator
This extremely rare weapon slows down the speed of time for your enemies. This is the perfect time to speed past opponents in front of you. This single weapon can chance the course of the race. You might find yourself leading the pack even after trailing them from the start.

Nice weapons!

This will be fun! And they have improved the grafics too. Not bad at all. Time Dilator and EMP will be fun to use, but very annoying to be attacked by, hehe :D

This just looks like a good todays computer game!

not like pretty new graphics! nothing new... imo where is this pretty new graphic sony spoke of? this only reminds me of Farcry (a really good game from 2003 i think) and where the hell is the 1080p resolution sony spoke of too? I have never seen a ingame pic of any game for the PS3 in more then 720p.

Well, try Far Cry at 400 km/h

And throw in 16 players in MP. I doubt it would be possible with good framerates...

why....

why does everyone expect a console release to be like the comming of the messiah? Common people think, no console has ever been able to reach its full potential at launch. This ususaly comes 2-3 years down the line. Are you so quick to jumpdown a consoles throat because most of its games look mostly on par(a lil below/above) with the xbox 360's? Have you forgotten when the Xbox 360 was released, with beta demos (talk bout rush job) and how subpar the graphics looked? No one seems to expect much from microsoft and its use of direct x in its consoles to make programming easier(doesnt make it any better mind you). Is it using all it has to offer already? Sadly yes, programming wise its still not at full potential, but many if not all the goals for the xbox360 have been met already. Its easy when you release a system that aims for current standards and not possible future ones. If you look back at the ps2 goals, did they make them? Yes and actually surpassed them in a few games even, in a few years it will probably happen again with the cell. Right now we are at a point in gamming where we have started reaching a platau of noticable polygonal differences. When comparing games now, you have to compare everything in it. Textures, poly's, anti-alias, draw distance, resolution, everything. Farcry may look good, but it lacks alot of textures and definition newer games have now, but in polygonal aspects youl have to look close to see. But thats most games now days.
