The Pain, oh, the painful details

Ouch. Pain's turning out to be Burnout's Crash mode meets Free Running (meets Halo 3's Man Cannon), if the video is any evidence. But since those "Title meets Title" descriptions are painful to use as selling points, we should be thankful that Eurogamer has some specific details on Pain.

Starting with its developer, Idol Minds... Er, after additional research, we found that IGN identifies the firm as "Idle Minds", which would be more appropriate, because that's the kind of mind that would have the time to dream up this painful game. We'll find out which one's which, even if it kills us.

It's being dubbed "action comedy." Man-sized slingshots (hence, the Man Cannon reference) sling your character through the air, past street traffic and cityscape skylines, in an effort to cause mass chaos and destruction with your, er, stunts. There is in-flight control which allows you to "drift, strike poses, and grab things." Built into the game engine is ragdoll physics and Havok engine, so you very well know that you can always trust this game's collision. Which is kind of the point of the game, anyway.

Eurogamer says there will be a variety of gameplay modes, including "Spank the Monkey" (literal monkey, people, literal monkey), "Mime Toss," and multiplayer HORSE as well as competitive and co-op modes (co-op Pain? Ouch). And taking a cue from the community approach of SingStar and Tiger Woods '08, you can save your most painful frequent flier miles as an action replay, upload it, and have the rest of the world groan with you in the comments.

i like this kind of tomfoolery... ok, it may only be obvious to those of us with larger brains than that of a pigeon, but the name 'idol minds' is a play on words - the fact that they call them 'idle minds' is stupidity on their part. god. 'more appropriate' you idiots.

sorry, but really...

anyways, this is looking cool. also coming to psn in the next year is that 'super stardust hd' which looks sick! if they get the manic-ness of geometry wars it will be so good.
