If you can't build them, sign a license for them. That's what Electronic Arts did to Epic's excellent, and recently in-demand, Unreal Engine 3. This puts EA as just one of the companies licensing the graphics engine for new games slated for the next gen consoles, PS3 and Xbox 360. It plans to use the engine for mostly action games like the latest Medal of Honor: Airborne and an upcoming FPS named Dead Space.

What made the EA deal a bit more notable is that the company also bought, last 2004, Criterion. It's known for its Renderware graphics engine which was used for nearly 25 percent of all games for the ps2">PS2 and Xbox. The deal? A cool $48M. We guess EA was waiting for a line of licensees that never came. But was it ever profitable for both companies? The Burnout games did pretty well, Black fell a bit short but at least gave them a chance for a sequel.

As for the present, Epic is on a running on a high thanks to its Unreal Engine 3. No other graphics engine company comes close to what it can offer. In the past, with its older Unreal Engines, it was basically stuck on the PC. In the foreseeable future, Unreal Engine 3 graphics will be the norm.

So gear up for better graphics here on!

Yeah right... I dont know if unreal engine 3 is the best but it right up there... other games I see I think there engine is better or close or just as good as unreal engine 3.

Just look at other PS3 games graphics that dont use unreal engine 3. Besides... new engines come out all the time and will always get better just like all other tech, lol.

Look at cry engine 2... hmm... to me those graphics are good or great but... not good as unreal engine 3 and not good as ALOT of other PS3 games engines.

Now... I dont know meany engines out there or what ps3 games engines for whatever game being use... so for all I know right now is... unreal engine 3, cry engine 2 (not that good at all really i mean great graphics but not good as others i seen on PS3 games) , and offset engine.

So really those 3 and the other engines for some ps3 games I see that owns all or close to unreal engine 3 or and offset engine (since I see graphics on PS3 that surpass cry engine 2... that why I did'nt say cry engine 2, lol) are the best out there right now, lol.

And really... since I dont know to many engines or some of the other ps3 games I see engine... right now I would have to say offset engine looks the best or close to the best.

That or unreal engine 3 or one of the other ps3 games engines, lol.
