The Darkness

It has been quite a while since we have given you something you could chew on about the upcoming game for the Xbox 360 and the PS3, The Darkness. Just to give you a little recap, the game is developed by Starbreeze AB, which also brought to you The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. The game is inspired by the Top Cow comics of the same title.

And in case you have no idea what the game is all about, it let's you experience being Jackie Estacado who is suddenly possessed by the powers of The Darkness; he then must now learn how to control his new-found powers. Blending both modern crime drama and supernatural horror through both first-person and third-person perspectives, the developers definitely have their jobs cut out for them. The environments are highly destructible allowing players to explode the scenery of New York and The Otherworld, a parallel reality where the Darkness dwells.

Here are some of the game's screens. On a more personal note, we would like to thank Xzyl for the heads up.

Oh and retard #2, it's 360 screens and the game will be identical for both systems, so eat it.

looks awesome! I love how the NPCs in the subway are all doing their own thing instead of aimlessly trotting around.

# IGN recently report the darkness will get exclusive content on the PS3TheProfessor 2006-08-19 17:33
Dont worry 360 fans it's only extra TV shows that play on the in game TV and other niceties like that.

They are also making use of the tilt controller.

I sent this to Qj.net but I guess they didnt think it was worth posting. Now I have to dig up the link.

I think I'll take better textures over watching more video on the in game TVs. Thats probably just me.

From Game Informer interview:

GI: What do you like about working on the PS3? How about the Xbox 360? Will there be any major differences between the two versions?

Högdahl: So far the two versions look pretty much the same – quite unsurprisingly, since we use the same shader source code and content for both platforms. They will be identical gameplay-wise. There will only be very minor cosmetic differences, such as the PS3 will have better quality video for the in-game TVs and on the Xbox 360 we have a bit more room for textures in memory.
