PlayStation 3 that's 80GB? WOW! - Image 1

The 80GB PlayStation 3 rumor is starting to feel less like fantasy and more like reality, if this new information we found on Korea's PlayStation site is accurate.

According to Korea's official PlayStation site, the unit it will be handing out to consumers isn't your usual 60GB PS3, but rather a souped-up 80GB version. It's repeated a couple of times in the product specifications page, which means that someone was either very meticulous in making a typo, or we could be looking at extra-special PS3s in the near future.

In any case, we'll either see a retraction of this very soon or a confirmation from Sony higher-ups once they find out about this. In the meantime, we'll have to wait for June 21 to find out more about this intriguing new development in the 80GB PS3 saga.

Thanks to Quixand for the tip!

80gb PS3?

Why, just why? And no it's not scared of XBOX. XBOX was scared of Sony that's why they brought out the Elite. But seriously, if you want a bigger haddrive, go out and buy another one...

aww again

I don't know why they would be releasing a 80GB model for

They could just as easily release a 120gb model, it'd be even cheaper for them to do than on the 360 since no modifications need to be done.
by XxBigP123xX - 2007-05-21 00:34:00
lol

your a ***** xbot M$ released the elite because they were scared of sony
by - 2007-05-21 00:51:39
Will you all cut the crap

Both the 360 and PS3 are designed to be upgraded, that's why the HDDs in both consoles are detachable (unlike the original XBox). So the HDD upgrades were ALWAYS going to happen this gen and therefore has NOTHING to do with MS being scared of Sony or Sony being scared of MS.

hahaha

i had to read the article twice before tipping QJ cause it's a "What the FU*CK!!! Damn Sony is a sneaky bastard if this is true!!!!!" can't wait for the press release though!!!! Sony will never be jealous of Microsoft cause Sony knows their machine actually works.

seriously to SONY

if this replaces any of the current ps3 version available, it will be totally demoralizing each and every person that bought a ps3. so i hope Sony knows what its gonna do. no matter what all sony followers will feel ripped off, they supported sony and bought ps3 earlier and now the people that held off buying will be getting a slightly better version? sony please justify this issue once and for all. if you are gonna release a better PS3 its OK, but 80gb only come on, your opponent has 120gb for crying out loud.

follow up

it seems that is sony's tactics to enter Korean market, and due to heavy MMORPG (free to try for limited time then monthly fee if you want more play) there, so i doubt that the 573 dollar price and 80gb can woe people away from their PC's. and starcrfaft 2 is gonna be launched there too, specially for korean market because the first starcraft is still popular there and on national korean TV too. i think eventually all 60gb ps3 all over the world will be 80gb and No Emotion Engine chip.

Wouldn't it be something if the PS3 got SC2?

and with mouse and keyboard support, that would win Korea over in an flash, not to mention alot of the rest of the world. Sony buy Blizzard now !!!!! :D
by - 2007-05-21 06:16:00
Pshh...

My 20GB PS3 has already been upgraded to 160GB since November :)
by - 2007-05-21 06:20:48
no

only the PS3 are designed for change the HDD with what you want. The X360 can only change HDD with another microsoft HDD (up to 120GB).

Sony's keepin a secret

i think sony is keeping a secret from everyone. It'll probably come with a hdmi cable or something else. If they ere smart they'll put that new chip in their. But sony should've sold it for $500
by nllx - 2007-05-21 11:39:31
^*****

No, they did their new customers a favor because they like them, unlike $ony with their lame excuses. 360 > PS3
by - 2007-05-21 23:21:10
Shut up Nllx

you are a *****in moron you know that? of course microsoft released the elite to combat the ps3 because without it they wouldnt be able to compete with the ps3, because what does hdmi offer? oh wait 1080P which component doesnt, a bigger hard drive allows for you guessed it 4 hour long downloads of hd dvd movies which are now about to die by the way because of blu rays awesomeness and dominance.
by - 2007-05-21 23:23:46
if only

if only microsoft would stop prohibiting to only propriatary drives, then maybe the xbots would be able to stop crying like a bunch of lil *****es. oh ya guess what my ps3 has a terabyte which the xbox will never be able to do, suck on that xbots.
