The '10 People Who Don't Matter' List |
Listed in: PS3, Xbox 360 Tags: Blu-ray, Ken Kutaragi, Microsoft, playstation 3 updates, Sony, Steve Ballmer
Ó

There are lists that people want to be in (Most Beautiful Personalities, Most Powerful People) and then there's Business 2.0 Magazine's 10 People Who Don't Matter. What does it take not to matter in the corporate world? The people on this list are still worth billions of dollars, command big salaries and have impressive titles. But they are also regarded as past their corporate prime. Most the people on this list aren't exactly household names but three may ring a bell.
Name:Ken Kutaragi
Position: President, Sony Computer Entertainment
Why he's on the list: Kutaragi is behind the PS3 and its payload, the Blu-ray (and we'd like to add the Cell). As you know, the PS3 missed its original launch date by a few months and generated negative PR with its price tag. The delays and cost overruns are said to make the PS3 and Blu-ray "nonstarters".
Name:Warren Lieberfarb
Position: Senior Consultant, HD-DVD Promotion Group
Name:Steve Ballmer
Position: CEO, Microsoft
But like we said they're still filthy rich and by the time they die they'd probably be three times richer so save your sympathy cards for another occasion.

We arent really going to be able to download HD movies since I beleive the playback rate is like 24mps per second. Movies are going to be ranging from 15gb all the way up to 200gb.
The whole point of HD is to get the visual wow factor. Sadly that isnt the point of Downloading(yet ). Its more about seeing movies that are at the cinema to see if they are worthy of a purchase.
So people are going to need HUGE broadband updates before this is a iTunes affair.
@5 Xbox360 kicks arse but maybe waiting is the correct move. Then again chances of getting a PS3 this Year are slim so you could have to wait a good while. Were as you could be kicking someones arse in China tomoro with Xbox Live

The thing is, HD is never going to become super popular until tv's are under $500 (average consumers make up alot bigger % of the market then techies) Hell I even know tons of techies who don't give a rats ass.
So ya, in 5-8 years once ppl are starting to get sick of DVD, yes we will be downloading movies. My area already has talks of creating a fibre optic network for consumers, which would equal pretty much instantaneous downloads, depending on the backbone, but definately 24mbps+ (I get 10 right now on a regular cable connection). I'm just glad some analysts are realizing that people don't want to upgrade...to BD OR HD-DVD....
