Thank you, FFXIII demo, PS3 sales in Japan revs ahead |
Ó
We expect more than a large fruit basket to come through Square Enix's lobby doors from Sony for their contribution to the PlayStation 3's sales. Retail tracker Sinobi reports that because of the Final Fantasy XIII demo, figures for the Sony console shot up in Japan. Now, it's important to give credit where it is due. If you'll remember, numbers came out showing that the PS3 sold about 16,500 units in Japan for the week ending April 12. When the Blu-ray version of Final Fantasy Advent Children Complete came out, it was reported that 70,000 out of the 100,000 copies were sold. Now, 40,000 out of this 70,000 bought a PS3 to go along with their demo!
The result? A whopping 57,000 units sold for the PS3 for last week alone, obviously in huge thanks to the demo. And that's not even the real thing yet. Just you wait when the final game actually releases this December for Japan.

interesting. guess its good sony has the game exclusive in Japan.
SE just knows it would be a waste of time/money to publish a 360 version there. RE5 sales were dismal in Japan for 360 when compared to the PS3 version. Now if this price drop hits and Japan is privy to it as well, then it will spell the end of those god-forsaken timed exclusive deals the 360 keeps nabbing.
57k units compared to 16.5 and (probably) all thanks to a demo of an RPG behemoth flashing a little bit of skin. Imagine when the game finally hits. That + a price drop and the PS3 will be flying off the shelves. I shudder to think what would happen if Dragon Quest had a PS3 iteration.
I can't wait for FFXIII and even with the game coming out for both 360 and PS3 a lot of my friends are going to be picking up PS3's around the time of release.
It'd be hilarious if the real game don't meet the hype this demo has reach. I mean you'd play an 1 hour of the game already. It's not going to be special when you play it on the real thing. Besides, by the time us North American get this title, it'll be like June 2010 or later. >_<
Way to long.
I remember when the Final Fantasy VII demo came out around 1996 with Tobal No. 1. As soon as I played the demo I was hooked. When the game finally came out in 1997 I picked it up and played it non stop. I played through it 3 different times maxxing out the game clock each time 99hours and 99minutes. Today if they released an upgraded remake I would buy it in a heartbeat. So my point is that the game can live up to the hype of the demo. I for one know I will buy it when it's released here in the U.S.
This demo is more than just "hype", it's been getting great first impressions. 1 hour of play is something like a dent for a game that's (probably) 40 hours long. So far the demo has left gamers and critics wanting more.
this is what happens when you release RPGs on the PS3 Square!
