TGS 2007: Kojima talks MGS4's bosses and new characters in Metal Gear Solid stage show |
Ó
If you've been keeping up with Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, you're probably more than curious about the game's cybernetically-enhanced bosses, as well as the latest additions to the game's cast. Here to divulge quite a bit about them, as well as a few other things, is none other than Hideo Kojima himself, straight from the Metal Gear Solid stage show in TGS 2007.
So what's the deal with the bosses? Kojima didn't exactly reveal anything about the armored femme fatales you'll be going up against, but he described the bosses as victims of war rather than soldiers - once beautiful, now turned into deadly beasts. Kojima also posed a hinting question: "Will [the bosses] be able to get back to human form?"
We don't know exactly how to take that sort of hint, as it could either mean Snake being hesitant in fighting them (for fear of killing their dormant human sides), or Otacon devising a way for our aging hero to get through to the bosses' true forms. Of course, knowing Kojima and his mind-boggling plot twists, we'll have to wait for the game itself to be released to find out.
From the bosses, we go to the new characters - namely, Sunny and Drebin. Yoji Shinkawa, the current character designer for MGS4, noted that Drebin was a unique character for the series. We couldn't agree more, what with his rather quirky mannerisms and soda-drinking monkey. Codec conversations with Drebin should prove interesting, at least.
As for Sunny, the character designer lamented on the difficulty of putting a cute girl character in the Metal Gear Solid series. No complaints here about Sunny - while she may look a bit out of place in battle, having at least one character that's not battle-hardened or armed to the teeth certainly helps break up the monotony some. Remember E.E., Otacon's sister? She was a great addition to the cast of MGS2.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is certainly looking to be a must-have for PlayStation 3 owners. With a colorful cast, an epic storyline, and one of the videogame world's toughest protagonists aiming to settle things once and for all - it's going to be one hell of a ride.
