Developing the latest installment of a famous fighting game franchise like Tekken 6 can be an interesting experience. Just ask producer Katsuhiro Harada, who shared a little bit about the story behind Tekken 6 and the lives of the Namco Bandai team members who are working on the game during the 2008 Taipei Game Show.

For example, Harada mentioned that Sega's Virtua Fighter series was the inspiration behind the first Tekken game. He also said that recurring characters in the series are largely due to fan requests. Namco Bandai reportedly honors fan preferences, as Harada even pointed out that one girl threatened to commit suicide when she heard news about her favorite character being dropped from the game.

Ever wonder just how dedicated the members of the Tekken 6 development team are to making the game as good as it can possibly be? Wonder no more. Harada put it this way: fifteen of the current developers have lost their girlfriends because of the attention they've given to the game. Fortunately (and ironically), these same people have formed good friendships with developers of rival fighting games. Birds of the same feather and all that, we suppose.

» VF inspired

Yep i always knew that the VF series inspired the creation of Tekken. For if there wasn't VF, there would not be other fighters.

VF is the best fighter ever bar none. Tekken is good too but VF is more deeper and more technical.

Both are good and are in a league of their own.

Nuff saids.

» Have you lost your mind?

» wtf??!?!?

dude...i hope you mean 3d fighters cuz....if you mean ALL KIND OF FIGHTERS you have gone mad!. Street FIGHTER is by far the best series by far...i would even say that the KOF series gives VF a run for its money...come on man...get a clue

"For if there wasn't VF, there would not be other fighters."

A big lie. What about games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, which were along before VF? I could care less that Tekken was inspired by VF, i dont even like VF and Tekken + Mortal Kombat are my favorite fighters.

» Virtua Fighter

Virtua Fighter seems like the controls are not right. Tekken's controls work good using a button for each limb. Soul Calibur is just overall badass. The characters and story in Soul Calibur is best along with badass weapons. I wish Namco would have went back to the original idea from Soul Blade where your character can get disarmed of his/her weapon but make the characters even disarmed fight badass, maybe even with Tekken style controls. Man that could be an even more awesome game!

» Battle Arena Toshinden

Back in the day it was the bomb! I think Battle Arena Toshinden is also better than Virtua Fighter. It is just funner with a lot more to do. I liked these and wish there was a next gen sequal.

Everyone here has a point. The best fighting game in the world is whatever is best for _you_. :)
