The PS3's Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is bigger than its Xbox 360 counterpart in a lot of ways. There's one aspect, however, that it won't match up to: gore. It's still an M-rated game, but the blood spills don't linger as long and there's now a blue glow that obscures beheadings and decapitations. Here's a comparison video:

According to director and producer Yosuke Hayashi, it was a conscious decision on Team Ninja's part.

"Each game has its own concept and with Ninja Gaiden 2, the focus was on extreme violence. But with Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, we really questioned whether violence is a necessity for a game, so we decided to move away from that trend," he told GamesRadar.

"So the violence 'approach' is not the way we approached the development of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. Being able to unlock higher levels of gore would be out of kilter with the concept of the game."

The gore's not the only thing that's been toned down. The difficulty has also received tweaks and all the levels have been reworked. The save point placement problem encountered in the original shouldn't rear its ugly head in Sigma 2. Oh, and you get these girls:

I don't even notice gore anymore

Funny, but I'm not sure I even would have noticed the difference in the gore if it hadn't been pointed out. I barely noticed the decapitations in Ninja Gaiden 2 360, and I didn't notice it was changed in any of the PS3 trailers. I still love superkills and cool scenes of epic violence, but in standard hack-and-slash bouts, gore for me fades into the background like sound effects do.

wow..

That's a big difference. That's like creating a 360 version of God of War but they decided to take away those big gory ending moves. People will notice. I hope they add an option so the game would be like the 360 version.

whenever they make a "remake" of sorts and cut anything out then it sucks, who wants a censored version of anything? Oh and @ Vman00 I think the last girl is the best looking one cause Rachael is some blond big fore-headed bimbo b*tch In S&M type clothing and Ayane has wierdo purple hair which may look good on a game or anime but when you think about meeting a purple haired person thats just wierd....

IMO she's the best of the bunch.

Ayane is ok, I've always thought the other girl was a butterface, but that last girl was the most appealing I think.

I just hope it plays better. I couldn't see why the first one got good reviews. It played like crap.

If it doesn't they have no excuse.

They're using a more powerful platform. Less effects on the screen, or maybe more "effects" and less gore. I've lost a little faith with NG2. The frame rate was so crappy in certain areas. This was not the Team Ninja I'm used to. I can't blame Itagaki's departure, since he was there for NG2.

doubt it.

as much as I would like it to happen, that's one of the key selling points on how this game isn't like NG2.
