Take-Two sues Chicago Transit Authority over GTA 4 ad pullout |
Ó
If you can still remember, advertisements for Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto 4 (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3) were pulled out from buses under the Chicago Transit Authority, after Fox News aired criticism concerning the advertising appearing in buses and transit display spaces. But publisher Take-Two Interactive is now striking back, suing CTA and sales agent Titan Outdoor LLC for breach of contract. The Grand Theft Auto IV poster ads were supposed to be displayed for six weeks according to the contract, but were taken down a few days after they were put up. The lawsuit filed by Take-Two - claiming violation of free speech and contractual rights - demands for CTA to run the ads per their agreement, as well as pay monetary damages amounting to at least US$ 300,000.
The Chicago Transit Authority hasn't given its comment yet. However, this is certainly an interesting development, and you can count on us to keep tabs on this bit of news. More details as they come.

Who is Fox news to talk when they show real violence on their stations everyday? Fox is just a bunch of hypocrites if you ask me. They are just trying to make money off GTA IV too by getting people all worked up over it. It gives them more viewers, in turn making their advertisers happier.
Although I like the fact that Take-Two isn't just sitting there, taking sh** from people, and allowing themselves to be harassed, I'm still concerned about what it's going to do to Chicago's economy. I mean, don't take me wrong, I'm totally on Take-Two's side on this one, but eh... i still can't help but wonder how it's going to effect the commuters when the CTA needs to compensate for it's losses.
Well thats their own fault for breaking the contract they`d made with Take Two. You break a contract, you get sued. Fact of life.
I agree. I'm totally on Take-Two's site on this one. Imagine you pay hundred-thousands of dollars for advertising in Chicago. Then they pull out the ads. So all the money is for nothing. I would be pissed like hell as well!
Yeah, I think the general consensus is on T2's side. If Chicago didn't want those posters up, they shouldn't have signed the contract in the first place.
it would seem that t2 and it's product are being discriminated against by the city. if it's ok in the first place to have mature rated games advertised in these areas, why not GTA4? that alone is grounds enough for a lawsuit in a free-market society. now lets take a look at the contract...
what GTA4 was about when they said YES to getting $ for the ads. Of course Chicago is being sued for taking someone's $ and not following up with their contractual obligations.
This all had alot to do with Jack Thompson if I remember correctly.
