Take-Two explains why Rockstar's Agent is PS3-exclusive |
So there's a new Rockstar title announced at the E3 2009, and it was made to be known that it will be a PS3- exclusive. Said game was simply called Agent (not to be confused with The Agency). So why is it a PS3-exclusive?Ben Feder, Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar's parent), explains:
The trade-offs a publisher will typically make is, if you're platform-antagonistic, you get a larger install-base. You're platform exclusive when you get the right kind of support from first parties...
At this phase int he cycle, when you're trying to launch a new franchise, exclusivity can really help you launch the franchise. It can give you the kind of platform that you need to start exclusive, start in the right kind of way with the right kind of partner. Exclusivity does work.
Feder also expressed his confidence in the PS3 despite being having the least numbers generated in sales.
I have a lot of confidence in Sony. I have a lot of confidence in their ability to lead the market, as they always have. Their console is a terrific platform to be developing form, and Agent is a great testament as to our belief in what the platform can do, and what they can do with us as a part of a partnership.
We'll be sure to update you on the latest on Agent as soon as we hear more about it.

That sort of comment makes me laugh.
for example the wii has sold the most but you'd likely get crap sales on certain games that'll do well on the other two.
the 360 is about 9 million ahead of the ps3 but the ps3 has about 20mill (Im told)
thats not that much of a difference considering how many 360's have broken and been replaced (I know a few people that own three 360's through breaking and just buying the elite cos it was new) Im sure they're not alone and most people I know own ps3, none have more than one)
on top of that I read that most 360's were sold in america (surprise surprise!) so the rest of the world is more balanced between the two.

I mean, last gen, all you kept hearing (especially from MS fanboys) is that the PS2 only sold so much because gamers had to buy a new one after the dreaded 'DRE' (Disk Read Error) problem.
The 360 has a 8-9 million lead over the PS3. That's it. Those are the facts, no theories or speculation needed. Stop looking for reasons to pretend the lead is not as much as it sounds, like the fanboys last gen pretending the PS2's lead was not as big as it seems.
Right, now I've got that off my chest, I can't wait to what Agent is going to be like, especially since being exclusive means they can get more out of the PS3 than if it was multiformat.

Anyways I'm keen to see what this game will be like as Rockstar usually tend to make games I've enjoyed greatly (most GTAs, Bully, The Warriors, Red Dead Revolver and so on)

I could be wrong, But this game doesnt seem to have a lot of faith invested in it,, Not enough to interest me, the consumer...

Why hasn't the PS3 gotten it?

Sales for what? the console itself or previous games?
I for one just think it's because they're just looked at the big picture and saw PS3 to be more profitable as it's nay hackable (yet, please keep that streak up sony) where as if they go multi with 360, a certain percentage of the game would probably be involved with piracy and development cost would again sore through the roof.

after picking up a PS3 due to tiring of the RROD THREE TIMES!!!
I cant see how some one would say that kind of ignorant statement.
they each cater to a different kind of gamer...
I propose that all fanboys stop considering themselves gamers... cause they hold the industry back due to the lack of a broader perspective on the medium in the first place

How severe the problem was is NOT THE POINT. It was an issue which effected enough of the PS2s (original model especially) to become a well known problem. Hence FAQs all over the net about it, eg;
http://www.tweak3d.net/articles/ps2repair/
Yes, most of the time there was a solution (not always, but most), but that didn't stop all the nonsense coming from fanboys about PS2 sales.
That claim still continues, look here from 2007, I could probably find one from this year if I tried;
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/11594.cfm
Some guy called Riotard says "Thign is atleast every ps2 owner must have had to rebuy, because i mean everyone i know has got the disc read error, so its therefore like 60million actually, because sony failed to make a consol that will last long enough. Yes i no 360's die even quicker, still my mega drive works fine, so does my n64, the best game consol should hardly ever break!"
See what I'm talking about?
So the suggestion that 360 sales are also due to a significant portion being re-purchased by gamers is also rubbish.
I would even use the argument I used last gen about the PS2, which is.... lets say it's true that gamers are rebuying a PS2 because of the DRE problem, then so what, a sale is a sale is a sale! If the product is good enough for gamers to be willing to buy another one (even though a repair would usually be cheaper), then who are we to complain?
One final point, anyone rebuying a console are not going to be rebuying all the games as well, since they will work on the new console! "Well duh, what's your point Jez?" I hear you ask. Well, if you take one gamer, and he has 8 games for his console, then the attach rate is 8. If he buys the same console again, then he will now have two consoles for those 8 games, making the attach rate only 4. Hence the attach rate will DROP if a significant portion of gamers are buying 2nd or 3rd 360s. But the fact is, in all regions, the 360 has the highest attach rate (including Japan to my surprise!!!);
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/04/13/xbox_360_attach_rates/
Therefore proving that rebuys are NOT responsible for a significant portion of 360 sales.
That's it. Me done now.

And optima, I can't guarantee that lol, apparently no one who worked on MGS4 is working on rising, so we'll see what happens.
As long as it isn't another "Snake's Revenge" I'll be happy.

when you put the copy of the mgs into the 360 a picture of hideo comes up with a big "LAWL". the xbox then seizes up and gets rrod

You would no doubt need to burn the games...which like you said you need expensive blank blu-rays (even more expensive if they are double layered) also you would need a dual layer blu-ray burner...not cheap. Then you have to actually download the 15-50 gig files....not good on the monthly bandwidth limit. I have 100gigs a month, which is fairly high for most providers...that could be gone really fast.

But I bash in now way 360 owners or the console itself, I don't need to do that, I exactly know what the console has to offer, I own a Xbox 360 Pro myself.
Halo and Gears of War are great games, I really enjoyed them and I 'm planning to get Fable 2 and GeOW 2. Wouldn't make much sense bashing a console I own myself, does it?

You do it to keep costs down. Developing for just a single platform is more cost effective. In that end, the PS3 is probably the most cost effective because they can advertise through @home (Keeping those costs down.) while catering to a fanbase that'll buy it /simply because it's exclusive/. This could suck terribly and I think everyone I know who has a PS3 will still buy it, simply because it's for PS3 onry.
As for being a fanboy of one side or another, both sides suck. Games are games, regardless of what platform they land on. Play the good, toss the bad.

And where the hell did I state something as facts? I was merely stating that it COULD sell very well on the PS3, nothing more. don't know what you read, but I was surely not stating any "facts". The only fanbyo from us both are you. I've read a lot oof comments from you in the past weeks and they were all PS3 negative.
As i said earlier, yes, i defend the PS3, but I do the same with 360 when some stupid PS3 fanboys say crap like:" PS3 has more graphics power! Games look better on PS3!" You knwo the drill. I friendly advise them that most multiplatform games look actually better on 360, thanks to Antialiasing and an easy to develop console.
And please, let us stop here now, we are filling QJ with senseless crap.

where is there any mention of the PS3?
and most of all, why the hell do you feel the need to be a douche?
each system has something to offer for each type of gamer.
let spite a jealousy subside and realize you are acting like a person who suffers from Dropped Baby Disorder.
