Syphon Filter - Image 1Early this February, a rumor broke out that Syphon Filter 5 was cooking in the kitchens of Sony Bend. This came about after a job posting over at their site, coupled with a post from PCB Production's site for a Facial Motion Capture credits for the game. Back then, Isaac C. posited that it may very well have been just an innocent typo. Turns out he was spot on.

A rep from PCB has finally spoken out, admitting that it was indeed just an honest mistake. "I apologize for the confusion," he said. "There appears to be some errors on our credits."

And they noticed it just five months after the posting? Oh well, if they say so. Guess you can scratch Syphon Filter 5 off your next-to-wait-for game list.

So that just means one of my favorite series will end with the biggest, worst cliffhanger in existence? Oh, how great.

Spoilers: At the end of SFLS, Gabe gets shot, Teresa gets shot, Mujari gets shot, and Trinidad gets killed. Lian shows up and tries to resuscitate Gabe, then it fades to black.

They gotta be working on something. They notice it after 5 months? Seems like a cover-up to me. I talked with one of Sony Bend's devs back in 2007, because I found her on deviantart as she's a 3D modeler for them. She said they're a pretty small company and a PS3 game is possible but the chances of that weren't likely at all. I guess she was right, would explain the four PSP titles they recently developed.

Why is it not likely to make Syphon Filter on PS3? maybe they ran out of ideas for the story.

hmm.. i wouldnt mind playing Combat Ops on PC with huge graphic improvements... and antialiasing!

The guy who did the story, John Garvin is still with Bend. There's no way he would run out of ideas, because SF1 originally had a much longer story than the final game, but John Chacon, voice actor for Gabe in SF1-3, was a guy they literally picked up off the street. He couldn't nail the more emotional lines, so a lot of the old story was cut but the general idea remained.

As for why they won't do a PS3 version: Like I said, they have a small team and the dev I talked to said they wouldn't be able to easily get the funds to produce the game. So it'd either be a really crappy game or a really short one with next to no content.

Then again, another thing is a possible cover-up, but who knows.
