Suddenly, Crytek thinks next-gen can handle Crysis

Suddenly, the PS3 and 360 can handle THIS?Crytek, the dev team behind the high-def super-realistic drool-worthy graphics PC shooter Crysis, said in August that next-gen consoles Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 didn't have what it takes to handle those high def super-realistic drool-worthy graphics. Now, they say there's absolutely no problem porting Crysis to the consoles.

Crytek lead artist Michael Khaimzon says, "I donÂ’t think there would be any problem to convert anything we work on to the next-gen consoles if we decided to." Except that so far, they haven't decided yet.

On the other hand, he also mentioned the word "sacrifice." As in: "We would just have to see how much of a sacrifice to the game we'd have to make. Or whether there would be a sacrifice at all, maybe we could find a way to make the game look exactly the same as it does on PC on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3." (Hmm. Hedging their bets, thinking that what they said in Leipzig was correct after all?)

To recap, it's a tale of three "no's":
  • They have NO PROBLEM porting Crysis to the 360 and the PS3,
  • They have NO IDEA if Xbox 360 and PS3 graphics will be the same drool-inducing pics from the PC version - or not, and
  • They currently have NO PLANS to port Crysis to the 360 and PS3.
Or maybe they're planning to drop us a surprise present for Christmas or next year. Who knows? At least they could port it if they wanted to. And all it takes is a decision (Now make us some hot tropical island girls to go with the hot tropical island setting of the game, Michael! All it takes is a decision!).

» Why Would They Think There Would Be A Problem?

Sure the graphics look pretty real and so does so many other games for XBOX 360 and PS3.

» ???

So in other words they think Crytek is too good for home consoles? Or do they just figured that they weren't gonna sell ***** on PC with those requirements?

» Sure...

...if you downgrade the graphics you can port it to the PS3 and Xbox 360.

That doesn`t mean it will be the same experience.

But they can`t sell millions of copies if people need an Alienware Computer to get the full experience.

At first they didn`t want to compromise.

Now you might say they are selling out.

» i think it would have to sacrifice

Yeah last time i checked the graphics in the PS3 and xbox360 are already old hardware so how could a game that is made with new hardware/directx 10 graphics which has like 126 unfied piplines compared to 48 unified. Im sure there would be sacrifices with graphics maybe not physics though. And anyone who says oh but 360 has three core CPU and has not been even tapped out yet. But the CPU doesnt do all the graphical stuff. It does some but only alittle tiny bit.

» what a waste of space

Come on really far cry was ***** and this looks pretty nice but hell i ant spending 3000 bucks for a new system upgrade to get it looking and running at a decent speed..

plus the screenshots look plastic looking ..

dont give me this ***** about direct x 10 .. its not going to be that much of a improvment just like the prevoius dirct x revisions.

ms worry about vista and xbox 360

» It's called marketing.

Although Crytek might have to lower the graphical quality of the console versions (were they to port it), it still remains that their announcement stating next-gen consoles' inability to handle Crysis was - for the most part - to add hype to the game's graphical prowess. This isn't anything new. (4-D gaming anyone?)

» Crysis will not even look half as good as on PC.

ever heared of something called DX10? (volumetric clouds for example)

both consoles only have a DX9 gfx board.

» If re-coded

specifically for each platform and no just ported, Crysis could look even better than PC version (at least the PS3 version).

FloW3184, you cant be more wrong. Volumetric Clouds are very common these days on consoles, WarkHawk comes to mind and it is not the better PS3 looking game. PS3 doesnt use any kind of M$ gfx library, the higher level library SONY is providing is a version of OPENGL.
