Star Ocean: The Last Hope North American release moved up; dev team says no to PS3 version

Star Ocean: The Last Hope - Image 1Star Ocean's release date has been moved! Don't worry though, the move is not necessarily a delay. In fact, it's been moved up eight days earlier. Yep, Square Enix apparently wanted to give you an earlier treat and so has bounced up the date to February 24, 2009 for the North American Xbox 360 fans.

But what of the PS3 version you ask? Unfortunately (and this is probably the catch to that good news), there will be no PS3 iteration for Star Ocean: The Last Hope. In an interview with IGN, the development team was asked pointblank if there is "any chance of seeing Star Ocean 4 made for the PlayStation 3". The quick, no-frills, no hope answer: "there are currently no plans for a PlayStation 3 version."

Oh well, maybe next time.

Out of all the consoles this could have been on XBOX should have been the last one on the list it should have either been on PS3 or Wii because star ocean was on their systems before before. Dumb developers switching around system releases this makes it difficult to have all the games from a series if they are all thrown around to different systems.

This is made by Tri Ace which for a reason I don't know are too lazy to make anything for the PS3 probably because they are way too lazy to learn how to make games for the PS3 or just way too lazy to actually make a game on the PS3 considering every developer saying it is harder to develop for than the Xbox 360.

You guys don't have to worry about it because like most of the Star Ocean games they aren't all that good. The storyline sucks and the gameplay is average. I'm more disappointed at Squeenix for publishing so many crappy games. I haven't played a good RPG since I played FF10 and FF12(that's right I liked 12 but I don't consider is a FF game).

Infinite Undiscovery was an interesting treat. Not bad for a first attempt from Square other than FF11. Last Remnant was quite the surprise. The combat is amazing, unlike anything I've ever played on any system, past or present. The next Final Fantasy Tactics game needs to use this engine. Star Ocean 4 looks like Square is taking everything, all the skills and techniques they've learned from their last games and giving us a gem. Real time combat that's smooth and stunning, amazing graphics only rivaled by Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, main character named Edge Maverick. Typical J-RPG with love from Square. So glad I have an XBOX 360. +)

Dude out of all the games you mentioned only Lost Odyssey was good. The rest of them were crappy in story and the battle systems need improvement. They may be exclusives but they are real crap at best. And I actually have all those games you mentioned what a waste of download time.

I don't care. I won't have the time to play it anyway. I'll buy this summer after the exams, and after I'll have finished blue dragon (paid 17$), then lost odyssey(paid 15$), then mass effect(paid 17$), then last remnant(paid 19$), then infinite undiscovery(pai d 19$). And maybe after white knight story (I have both consoles). Then Star Ocean 4. Still, SO4 will surely be better than any of those JRPG BUT white knight. I'll buy tale of vesperia before maybe too, if the price drop enough... 30$ would be good for a super great game like that, lol.

HAHA! lol at all the Action-RPG lovers that thought it'd be a great idea getting a PS3 only this gen.

...I am so *****ing glad I picked M$' route,

But wait a second, htf is XBOX - the only non J-console getting all of the J-rpgs? especially Star Ocean.

:( I heard Cry On was canceled though,

If I recall as far as exclusive ACTION RPGs you obviously don't know what you're talking about. How many exclusive ACTION RPGs does the 360 have? This, and Last Remnant if I recall. Just with a glance at the PS3 for action RPGs we have Versus XIII, White Knight Chronicles, Folkore, and any Kingdom Hearts game that will be coming out in the future.

Shame on Tri-Ace for being lazy and in turn losing most of it's fan base. I don't know anyone who LOVES Star Ocean that much to buy a 360 for it alone. I don't see this game selling as well as its predecessors.

And nobody cares that you went MS route, if you hadn't noticed your lineup this year is weak as hell, so unless Microsoft can push Epic to finishing Gears 3 in a year or have Bungie ***** out another Halo game, what do you really have to look forward to that isn't multiplat?

I guess "money from M$" are the keywords here. Clearly they are stating NO reasons why they don't want to develop a PS3 version. Especially a Japanese developer should know that the PS3 has a much bigger market in Japan.

Even Bioshock & Eternal Sonata was denied up & down that it wouldn't release for the PS3 and here we are now with both games on the PS3 (both having exclusive DLC). I don't really like the generic Star Ocean & Final Fantasy type RPGs though so I couldn't care less what platform it's on. Besides, once it flops on the 360 and they need to break even then they will port it to the PS3 but even then the PS3 owners won't buy it because they will know it's garbage ahead of time.

# Well...Dolesky 2009-01-11 06:56
I would much rather play this on the ps3, merely because I expect a bigger and longer game on a blu-ray. Still though, if you want the game, just get a 360. They start at $199, go on sale for $179, and can be found used for even less. You don't need any extras if it's just for this one game, and if you're too poor to get one, then how did you ever afford a PS3 in the first place?

It seems, jag old boy, you haven't even played these games or you'd elaborate on your opinion. Infinite Undiscovery has a great real time combat engine, easy learning curve, huge world with unfortunately small towns and cities. Graphics are similar to FF11, but like FF11 you can create most items and weapons yourself, giving gamers a break from having to grind for cash to upgrade their inventory. Last Remnant plays like a grid based tacital strategy but without the grid. Forming up to unions of 5 unique warriors that are hireable or join your party, as in FF Tactics, makes this turn based combat very fun. I can just battle without the need to progress through the story and still enjoy this game immensly. Star Ocean looks great and I'll be buying that game as well. Already have it reserved at GameStop and Square Enix can keep making them because I'll keep buying them.

You do know that most JRPG game that's on the xbox are multiple disc. I was about to get last remnant for the 360 but it's on 2 disc so I'll wait for the PS3 version.

Are you telling me that refused to buy a game because its on more than one disc? God you're lazy !! I mean come on some of the best games ever made are multi-disc.

FF7, FF8, Metal Gear Solid, etc. Its amazing how lazy the human race is becoming that we can't get off our asses to change a disc. Something that takes less than 10 seconds to do. May god help us all.

I must be lazy for not having a old TV where I have to get up and adjust the antenna on top of it every now and then just to get a good picture.

If you don't have to then why would you?

# Why No PS3!?firedragon_jing 2009-01-12 04:25
This is a big J-RPG, and it's silly to not put it on the PS3. 360 sell horribly in Japan, and many of them will want it but won't get it because it's not on a Japanese system. Same reason FFXIII is only going multi-platform in the States and not in Japan. I personally don't want to get a 360, I'm happy with my Wii and PS3. Hopefully it will eventually get ported to the PS3 so I can play it.

I just find it silly how the two systems kinda switched styles. The XBox was the main FPS console, and PS2 was big on RPGs. This was sticking into this gen, but now PS3 is getting many shooters and the 360 is getting many J-RPGs.

White Knight Story, the best JRPG to pop this year with FF13, is gonna be exclusive to the ps3 by the way. (By Level 5, those who made dragon quest 8, rogue galaxy, etc)

It's about supporting the system you care most about.

Also because Remnant is coming out later for the PS3 some things may be fixed to make it better (see Oblivion, Bioshock, etc.)
