Square Enix stock shares rise after FF13 Xbox 360 reveal |
Listed in: PS3, Xbox 360 Tags: Japan, Microsoft, Square Enix
Ó

Most of us must still be reeling in utter shock after Square Enix's announcement yesterday that Final Fantasy XIII - previously known as a PS3-exclusive - will now also be heading to the Xbox 360. Though many are quick to give an outcry, investors seem to be welcoming the cross-platform announcement with open arms (and open wallets).
When the stock market in Japan closed yesterday, stock shares for Square Enix got a substantial spike and got a 5.2% gain, closing at JPÂ¥ 3,250 (US$ 31) in the Tokyo Stock Exchange. This is the biggest gain Square Enix has had since May 22.
What some of you might find weird about this is that Square Enix's upward movement in the Tokyo Stock Exchange happened at all, since it's been confirmed that FF13 will not arrive on the Xbox 360 for Japan. Though that may be the case, consider that the stock market isn't wholly dependent on console wars and the dictates of exclusivity politics. Investors view the stock market from a financial perspective.

At the rate the PS3 is going is getting ports that are already played in the xbox360 or getting game launches after the 360...
Reason I won't buy a 360 is only because of the 16% Red Ring of Death, seriously thats a high %, the ps3 may freeze but just turn it off and back on, and your set. If they can fix that..
I'll buy a 360, cheers everyone.

This is going to be rather interesting. Many people have their own THEORIES about 360 versus PS3. For example, BD is great for more space but they only need it because they are wasting space for faster load times. Pure logic debunks that one. If that was the case then they could just use DVD9. But it'll be fun to finally stomp all these 360 kiddies into the ground once and for all.
I wouldn't doubt it if this move was done solely to END the VERSUS wars once and for all. This will be a true test as to what can and can not be done on which console. If the 360 can EQUAL the PS3 version on DVD9 then everyone has no choice but to admit the consoles are equal.

-Think about this-
like 70-80% of 360 owners dont even own a hi-def TV or have one and dont know how to use it.(everyone I know that has a 360 hasNO HD tv's). but as for ps3 owners... 90% of them HAVE HDtv's and know how to use em along with blu-ray,SO my point is that wen ff13 comes out 4 the 360 owners, people are most likley gunna be playing it in SD witch puts the quality and experience to poop,so no matter wut,us ps3 owners will get the full experience.
PLUS i dont think alot (if any) of 360 owners really cared at all about ff13 being ported to their system. but Wutever,Sqeenix sux now and if they port kingdom hearts to 360,im allmost positive the will get Disowned by ALL (not some) but ALL of their fans and will forever be hated and most likely burned to the ground. :) ef you *****enix.

"SOME space on blu ray is wasted for duplicate data to make loading times faster."
What's your point? These are not my theories. Go cry at those that believe such things.
"The PS3 only runs PS3 games on blu ray discs. Everything else is run as DVD, PS2, PS1, whatever is detected. A PS3 game CANNOT be released on a non blu-ray disc due to copy protection. You know the drill, YOU FAIL."
What exactly did I fail at? I didn't address anything you mentioned here? Are you dreaming in douche land again? Oh, I get it, you FAILED you understand anything I said in my post. HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! !! In regards to DVD9 that decision would have been made during the DEVELOPMENT of the PS3. Gees dude, give up already. A 4 year old can best you.
Oh man...you need to either give up or grow up.
"Sure, the XBOX 360 version will be more than one disc. Was that a problem on the PS1?"
Who said it was a problem? Learn to read moron.
"The trade off is no required HDD installs, sometimes taking 4GB or more."
HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! ! You are such an idiot. What exactly is the problem with HDD installs? Seeing as how MS is opening up the 360 to FULL GAME INSTALLS.
You don't even have a full understanding with what is going on with your own 360. You are lame at best.
"WHO CARES????"
Do you seriously need an answer to this dumb question?

Remember the days of PSOne? I think Wing Comander 4 came on 4 Discs, thats a posibility of 2.8 GBs of data for PS One compared to N64s 64MB. Ah Good Times.

Naturally you'd think it'll only be on xbox, so you go out and buy the new xbox only to find out that Halo4 is going to be on PS3, now you're pissed of you wasted you money and the game is nolonger where it belongs.
This is why these argument happen.
BTW if anyone didn't know, NO there is not a Halo4 on PS3.

As for Versus XIII, I sure hope the game takes advantage of the Cell BE Processor since this is an exclusive. I would expect better graphics quality than FFXIII since this is solely being developed for the PS3.

Blu-Ray is great for FMV cut scenes and that's really the only advantage it has. MS showcased some pretty graphic intense games at it's keynote, Gears, RE5 and Fallout. Why would people think the game will need to be degraded for the 360? It will need extra discs because of the FMVs but everything else will be pretty close to equal.
Square have actually had more experience developing games on the 360 as well. It's not like this will be their first 360 game. In fact it will be their fourth one by the time it's released.

First. Sony killed its wonderful gaming console to further their HD media. I said including bluray was a bad idea the day the playstation came out and even though bluray won the next-gen format war, it killed the PlayStation. If the PS3 didn't have the bluray drive it wouldn't be *****ing $599.99 the day it came out and everyone would have it by now and FFXIII would remain PS3 exclusive.
Microsoft can just go to hell. All they know to do is steal customers with promises of money and deliver ***** products in return. ***** you Microsoft.
$quare Enix EPIC FAIL. Not only are they looking like complete Sell-Outs now but also what they don't realize is that all those people that they think make such a strong Xbox base in America WILL NOT BUY this game! Yes, many will. But not like they are hoping. Majority of the Xbox base has no interest in Final Fantasy. All the people I know think it's a kids' game. Most Xbox users like Halo type games. So great work SE. You sold yourself out and not only lost your loyal Sony fanbase but got jack ***** in return.
Good job SE. I'm sure now you will complete the kill and gutting us by removing *****loads of awesome content that would have been otherwise included on the PS3. Trust me. There will be no "two-disc" version and there will be no "separate ps3" version. Prepare for the next gta iv.

The 360 upscales games to 720p and 1080p. This means DVD9 only has standard definition stored on the disk. This and the data may be more compressed.
Blu-Ray has games stored in high definition, instead of the PS3 upscaling the standard definition.
Disk storage may not be an issue.

It's called a Hemorrhoid. You should get that checked out! Chilling out in the meantime would be a good idea.
Remember, these are video GAMES.

I don't understand that some people fail to understand this.. The storage media is different only in its storage capacity.
Let's say you have a 2GB 720p video file on your hard drive and you burn it on a DVD-R and a BD-disc, does the file suddenly come SD on a dvd? +)
For the part that DVD-9 would not be enough for this game.. I think that ~8.5GB or so is more than enough for games at this generation, only time when you need huge amounts of storage space is when you have prerendered video inside the game... Whitch I think is pretty useles since you could do just the same using the games engine.
Or aren't the consoles fast enoug? ;)
On PC there arent many games that are over 6GB or so, and I would guess that textures (the stuff that takes most of the storage space) are just as high detailed or more detailed than on consoles.
