Square Enix Party 2007: More on The Last Remnant (and two clear screens) |
Ó
A 1UP report on the Square Enix Part 2007 reveals several interesting details regarding the company's recent entry into the gaming scene: The Last Remnant. Yes, we've given you a detailed preview of the game already via some magazine scans we found on Jeux France, however, this 1UP report has something interesting. They have an account of the preview that was shown to the press at the party.Let's start with something from Yoichi Wada, Square Enix President. According to him the game will be a Square Enix RPG for the world. Hopefully, that means that it will be designed for mass appeal (as some critics would comment that the Final Fantasy Franchise has to constantly appeal to its own fandom). The simultaneous U.S. and Japan release and the reported presence on both Xbox 360 AND PS3 should attest to this.
The 1UP report then goes on to describe the trailer which featured the Unreal game engine. The scene starts with a young man, and then soon moves into showing an unfolding skirmish (probably that battle in the released preview screenshots for the game).
After the trailer, a real-time demonstration of the game started. There are a few instances where the frame-rate was choppy, however it must be noted that the game is still in early development, and based from 1UP's account, is enough to turn heads, as it looks "accomplished" already. Anyhow, the demo revealed that the game has a real-time environment similar to Final Fantasy XII and that similarly all battles will take place between the character and the easily seen monsters onscreen - which means no random battles in this one.
As for combat itself, a sample battle revealed a life-bar to indicate
the relative 'health' of the opposing armies (labeled 'allies' and
'enemies'). Success of attacks seems to be based on timing, as onscreen
button prompts that fill require the player to press the appropriate
buttons at the appropriate times. The demo then revealed a roc-type "boss" that appeared and heavily
augmented the opposing forces' life-bar. After the appearance of the
"boss" a new selection of menu choices appeared. This reveals that while the game attempts to move into a more dynamic pace, the game is still rooted in Square-Enix's core turn-based values.
Based on the screens we've seen so far we believe it's safe to speculate that this game mixes elements from FFXII system with elements from the Musou genre.
It was noted that a lot of the architecture in the environments in the game feel very reminiscent of Rabanastre in FFXII. It has been clarified, however, that there is seemingly no relation between Last Remnant and regular FF settings or continuity.
The Last Remnant is to be made for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3. No release date has been set so far. We'll update you as more info is made available.

A dynasty warrior with fantastic story and RPGs elements? HELL YEAH! I'm gonna buy this as soon as it's on shelves
360 > Gaystation
.
As to how a teenager who belts out oh so original quips like "360>gaystation" can gather up the money to even afford games. Oh wait! aaa rich parents~ I see now. I don't see why you have to stake your own pride into a videogame system. Just ask your mom for a PS3 too. I'm sure if you whine enough for it like you did for you 360, she'll get it for you. Maybe even an ice cream cone as well!
is a very smart publisher. They know what they touch becomes gold, so they are sharing their wealth, DQ9 is heading to DS, Dissidia FF to PSP, FFXIII for PS3 and what about x360? well this game is to appease x360 fans because FFXIII, nor DQ nor Kindom Hearts will see the light on X360. This looks like an interesting new IP, I hope Last Remnant be a successful one on both PS3 and x360.
LMAO what a virgin
Usually 360 owners arent interested in FFX, DQ, or KH otherwise they would have bought a PS3 instead. I personally find all those games boring, much like Im sure you find some 360 only titles boring.
Subject says all.
