Final Fantasy XIII
(Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) is still far from release but already Square Enix is eyeing the possibility of prepping DLC for the game. Speaking to RPG Site after GamesCom 2009, Yoshinori Kitase confirmed that they are indeed exploring that possibility.

So says the Kitase-san:

We are exploring the option of downloadable content, perhaps adding new areas, items or enemies, but these would not be expansions to the story, only the gameplay. The entire story of FF13 will be on the disc.

The thought of having to pay for extra content may not be too enticing right now, especially since the game isn't even out yet. What kind of DLC would you guys actually consider getting?

» I would consider

NONE...WTF REALLY DLC EVEN BEFORE IT COMES OUT????????????????? JUST PUT IT ON THE DISK AS AN ARCADE OPTION OR SOMETHING

by mastershane - 2009-08-31 13:27
» Seriously...

If they are considering DLC at this point, the game is done. Where is it?

I like the fact that there not expanding the story through DLC. I hate buying a game, then having a developer say to get the full story, buy this also. That's the only thing that pissed me off about Fallout 3.

» blame microsoft

sqeenix wont allow the ps3 version to have more content than the 360 version even tho everything will fit on a bluray disk so what ever cant fit on 4 dvds will be add on content. boooo.. 360 needs a bluray player already and sony needs cross game chat they should trade lol..

The type of DLC I'd like to see is characters from other games... ahem Cloud and Squall... ahem. Seriously, who wouldn't want to pay for that? Having new weapons, armor, accessories, and quests won't add alot of replay to what it already has. So having new characters to level up is really where all the replay is at when it comes to RPGs.

If it adds achievements/trophies, it better not be something that has to do with the story because I hate achievements that require you to play the game over again, especially so soon.

» right

Always blame microsoft right? Well how about when a rumor started about how PS3 can't get custom in-game music and people blamed it on MS. Well whoopty *****ing doo, it wasn't MS after all. If sqenix doesn't want the ps3 version to have more content than the 360 its their decision, not microsoft's.

» DLC?

Honestly when I first saw this I was happy being the fanboy I am if DLC was available then other versions like universal or Final Mix wouldn't matter as much. But then I got to thinking what if regular things were DLC like Genji Armor? Then this would of course be an utter fail! New characters? I don't think so though this would be cool it wouldnt fit in story. I can see different modes though.

» This could either be a blessing or a curse.

Depending on how SE do it.

If the DLC added say... optional side-quest bosses (Think Dark Aeons and Penance bosses from FFX) that were harder than the story bosses/monsters (to test your skill with the characters). That would be pretty cool and I would snap that up in a second.

But if the DLC is only a few pieces of weaponry, and few new items then they can forget it.

New characters don't have to be part of the story. Kind of like in FF7, Vincent and Yuffie were optional characters, they had their own quests, but it was all optional. That's why you don't see any CG clips of them.

Yeah I see what your saying but in order to get the characters they had their own little story yuffie in woods, vincent in mansion, and if you had them in party they had conversations with any thing game came upon. They probably wasn't in much scenes because there hardly was any cg scenes anyway.Btw I remember them in last scene. Yeah so I don't see how this would work, unless the characters were already in the game but you can add them to party indefinitely like team nora-since i'm assuming they split after Snow becomes chosen.

» Ugh

Please don't degrade such a classic series with garbage DLC that should've been in the game in the first place

» From a PS3 perspective

I'll bet highly that they can fit the DLC they're considering on the disc.

I really don't know about the 360, if they could, but I mean that's just limitation of the format..

by Master Chef - 2009-09-01 08:50
» If they wanted to

They'd put it on the PS3 disc and make it free to DL on the 360, some games are like that. It's just Square making a cash grab

Can't blame them cuz payed DLC has been hugely successful, and I won't have a problem if it's cool stuff they made after the release of the game, but if it's armor/characters/quests they kept out on purpose to charge for I'll rage

» @haru

actually, there is in-game music on the ps3. because the patent the xbox has on in-game music sony has worked around it and opted that the developers add it to their games.

but i agree, the whole DLC isn't an MS issue

The game is almost done, and DLC is an afterthought....so what are you talking about ?

The games that exploit DLC are those like Fallout 3, COD, Killzone, Fight Night, Gears of War. All of these games have DLC planned out before they are done developing the game.

Fight Night was horrible, DLC for 4 or 5 extra boxers, 2 months after the game is released. These are boxers mostly they have had in previous releases, they should have been on the disk. Same with extra maps for the FPS's, etc.

So the fact that Final Fantasy is now almost complete and they havn't really thought about DLC means Square is one of the good guys.

by Shatterdome - 2009-09-01 11:33
» Yup...

I am not buying Fallout just because it has so much DLC.....of course I know bethesda does not care about me. More people need to stop buying DLC and developers will re-think it....but as it is, so many people buy it that all devs are doing it.

by Shatterdome - 2009-09-01 11:36
» depends....

If the characters are just new skins, or actually have unique abilities.

by danielakadanny - 2009-09-01 15:07
» well..

a good guy for now...lets hope they stay that way
