SpeedTree: PS3's tree engine |
Ó
Ask anybody about the LOTR Trilogy, and aside from the usual fangirl wailings (and fanboy flamings) about Legolas, you'll eventually run into the dudes who say it rocked because of the set's scenic Wellington location. Gotta give those guys credits: Good locations can make or break a game, and with that in mind, we're letting you guys know that the this list of visually jaw-dropping PS3 games we're listing will be running on SpeedTree - already famous for its rendering of the greens for Epic's Unreal Engine 3.
- Resistance: Fall of Man
- Call of Duty 3
- Full Auto 2: Battlelines
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
- Fatal Inertia
-
Way of the Samurai 3
As Full Auto 2 Project Director Cord Smith put it, "SpeedTree allowed our artists to quickly and easily generate a wide variety of trees so the team could concentrate on more complicated matters." 'Nuff said.

I ran the techdemo from speedtree over 1 year ago on my computer.
SpeedTree was meant to be a supplement for larger graphics engines like the one mentioned above. This means that it can work for either a PC or PS3, provided the engine you're slapping this on
can handle it. And given the PS3's specs, it should handle nicely.
yeahh this technology isn't anything new
its found in oblivion for 360 and saints row.
Those trees look like teh shiz!!!!!
I cant wait to buy a game that has nothing but trees in it!!!
The whole $5000 for a PS3 thing is so clear to me now!
Screw Xbox and Wii, they dont have as much tree goodness!!!
Some 360 games do use speedtree and many more will in future (see post above).
Speedtree is for PC and next-gen consoleS, not just PC and PS3.
the next generation is coming nov 17 2006
F-A-N-B-O-Y. I'm only when good games are!
This software has to be used in a graphics engine so therefore it can be used in anything powerful enough to support it.
OMG HI DEF TREES OMG
Not the engine but tht pciture is from oblivion for the PS3 or its from the xbox360 verison. PS3 can do way betetr then that and far betetr then crysis. Really both PS3 and xbox360 can do far better then crysis and PS3 games already proved this graphically. Like Lair and UT2007 and MGS4 and others own the crap out of crysis graphics. Lots of games do.
You will see far way and much better looking games for PS3 all the time and in the future its gonna be insane. And better looking games then any games there are right now. PS3 is way better then computers and far and way and much more from a tech wise and graphic wise and next gen then xbox360 TOTALLY. Most likely PS3 will haves the best graphics till PS4. And there no cpu use for gameing for pcs that is anywhere near Cell.
You would need a 49 core cpu to even be close to Cell and not even on pair stll. Cell can do graphics for some stuff betetr then any gpu/cpu can do. And pcs use all kinds of diff cpus and videos cards so they dont max out those video cards and cpus. Gamesm ove on all the time and on all kinds of cpus and videos card and just dont stick to one cpu and video card. PS3 the best till PS4.
i jacked off 4 times today...
thinking about the ps3
Your post is wrong on so many levels that it's not even worth tackling each point in turn.
You remind me of the HUGE number of Sony fanboys online saying EXACTLY the same nonsense about the PS2 and it's Emotion Engine all those years ago.
0101010101 is obviously a very young fanboy. ;)
Uhm yes.
This PS3 thingy is awesome.
I want to know why the PS3 has
a Cell processor and an emotion
engine and like 2 other processor
chips in it.
Please fork the diagrams. Thanking
you in advance.
