Sony's PS3s Made In China? |
Apparently, this isn't just a rumor.
Sony IS relying on other production facilities outside of Japan to
manufacture certain parts of the PlayStation 3 hardware for the first
batch of consoles. Why the fuss about this? Sony hasn't done this
when the company made its PS1 and PS2 game consoles before.
These facilities “outside Japan” are said to be in China, and these manufacturing facilities will begin production of specific PS3 parts this summer. Information about which parts of the PS3 hardware will be made in China are not yet available.
Sony's move to use its mass production capabilities seem to be the company's tool to quickly take the lead in the next generation console race with rivals Nintendo and Microsoft. This might be Sony's last resort if it plans on realizing its six million shipped PS3 units promise by March 2007.
Hopefully, mass production of the much-awaited PlayStation 3 won't affect its quality.

Does it really matter where it's made in? What ISNT made in China nowadays?
just about everything own is made in China but my American Car that was made in Mexico.
And with you I mean the comment posters here. The question of quality is also present but the most important thing is how many more consoles can be assembled with two factories instead of one.
Sony wants to ship 6 million consoles in less than a year. Nintendo sold 6 million DS in a year in Japan and then it got sold out. And believe me, production time of a DS is shorter than of a PS3. If Sony really want to ship 6 million consoles until next year, they better hurry up. I personally doubt that Sony can accomplish that. There is always the chance of difficulties with production. I just hope for all future PS3 owners that Sony does not cling onto that 6 million thing if they run into problems and sacrifice quality. Just remember the first batches of PS2s and 360s. I would not be surprised if rushing the PS3's production will result in a lot of problems
yeah we all remember having to wait around for high capacity memorystick duos because Sony's and Sandisk's factories couldn't keep up. The more the better!
PS3 will be manufactured in Taiwan? So that the mass production price will be cheaper than China price rate.
As long as you have the right people and the right equipment you can manufacure anything anywhere in the world.
Japan would never work with China unless they had the same sort of quality control standards.
And as a sidenote its really shocking and quite delightful that Japan and China are finally working togather. :)
