Michael Ephraim: Sony suggests users should upgrade their PS3 HD - Image 1 If you're itching for more news related to the coming of Play TV and the rumored 120 GB PS3, better heed the words of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia's Michael Ephraim.

People who are eagerly anticipating the 120 GB PS3 models should just upgrade their HDs as suggested by Ephraim. He added that, "The hard drive issue, we've done it so you can upgrade the hard drive."

Ephraim also commented that, "It's non-proprietary, and you do have external hard drives." Furthermore, he explained and noted that retailers may stock up on the PS3 consoles with increased hard drive capacity when PlayTV actually launches.

Finally, Ephraim has an advice to those who have plans of utilizing the said service. He commented:

With PlayTV, yes you will need more storage and retailers will probably accommodate those needs for consumers. As we all know, the price of hard drive space is coming down. If we do it, fine, but if we don't do it, the consumer will still have choice.

Simply put, rather than wait for the release of the rumored console, you may want to upgrade the HD of your PS3s instead if you're looking for more space on your consoles.

uh

Not to be mean but this was just a little obvious..

?

Why would anyone buy a new PS3 rather than just upgrading the hard drive?

by chris m - 2008-02-07 06:01:28
?

you would be surprised at the amount of people that are stupid enough to do just that

...

What i dont understand is why we dont see some sony branded hard drives. Im sure that they could sell them really easily and i would of thought it would be a rather obvious revenue stream.

Respect...

At least the guy is being honest. I'm really quite impressed that he candidly admits that upgrading the HD isn't that difficult, and shows off a bit of the expandability of the console. Now... more games pls. Kthxbye!

you've got a point

They could just sell an expensive "PS3 hard drive" no different from any other laptop hardrive and people would probably eat it up. Kinda like how you can find "Wii SD cards". But maybe Sony actually has a heart for the dumb-ass consumers out there.

it's not like playTv is gonna pop in america anyway...

sadly... Still, I shope we'll see some "mod" version of playTv for US playstations (and Tvs, and channels... lol). :d

They said it

was coming this year, so I dont think it'll be THAT hard to get it in the US.

Not all External HDDs work though

I brought 250gb seagate external that was formatted as NFTS or wotever. If its only fat32 compatible, does that mean we only able to buy 32gb hdd? I was hoping to backup ALL media and demos

by chris m - 2008-02-08 12:07:02
it's ok

you can format drives over 32gb as fat32 using the likes of partition manager, i have a 160gb in my PS3 at the moment
