It seems Sony has trademarked a new brand name at the Japanese patent office, apparently for a controller. And it's called..."P oo S". Not quite unlike the aftermath of the Wii announcement, the jokes are already rolling in and let's be frank, that's no surprise. Are Sony hoping to follow and succeed with the strategy Nintendo has utilized? As their rivals, do they hope an at first alienating name will sooner or later become highly identifiable, or is this just another silly move for the sake of publicity being creative?
Regardless of that, the source states the "oo" part could be the infinity sign. Or it might represent the two analog sticks on a Dual Shock controller.
While it's doubtable "P oo S" will stir the media as heavily as Wii, Sony haters surely get another piece of meat to chew on with this. It seems we have to wait and see if the patent bears actual importance as the Playstation 3 launch draws near. Lots of things can still change...

That sounds like a normal evening at R Kelly's house... but seriously both nintendo and sony need to be taught a lesson..wii is the stupidest name ever and i doubt sony would copy that(we have been wrong before) it is most likely a symbol of somekind. with the high price of the ps3 it needs the best name it can get not the worst... sony would be better off to market it as a type of computer rather than a video game system..that would create interest for older consumers.
i think it almost definetly translates to infintiy - how that can be added to the controller name i have no idea..

I can understand the infinity part. It'll most likely be an extension of their PS branding. Y'know the vertical P with the isometric S underneath. OR it could be like the PSOne font (the really curvy font) but with infinity symbol inbetween the p and s to simulate the infinate possibilities with their rip off controller.

I ain't a Xbox or Nintendo fanboy, but Sony is just f****** themselves over. What does poos mean? Nothing this even states that Sony is calling its own "Masterpiece" a "poos." Wii had meaning, as in "Wii play together, Wii win together." What does poos mean? I doubt anything. They are just using the same marketing ploy as Nintendo, I will admit I hated the name "Wii." But I began to see what it meant. It is nearly impossible to understand "PooS" except for the infinity sign. ANd this news IS true. Sony thinks they are the top dogs in the Video Game market. And they don't think of Microsoft or Nintendo as competition, but when the Wii, Gears of War, Halo 3, Super mario Galexies, and Legen of Zelda: Twilight princess come out, will sony have anything? The thing that messed up the GameCube was it had no killer app. Sony's PS3 has NO killer app. The grphics are not better then Xbox 360 (Only it can have better physics, and AI.) and it runs at about $600 for a system, plus a blu-ray (Wich would be about $1000) Why would people buy a $600 system when they can get a hardcore system and a casualy system for the half the price you'll have to pay for a PS3 and Blu-Ray? Also, why would Xbox and Nintendo be dead and buried? They have great ideas. Don't steal, and have knowledge. I doubt Sony cares about the customer, as long as he buys a PS3, he's just a number.. ...so I'm going to pick on your grammar. I will not "emit" anything. I will "admit" that the PS3 will have a superior system to the 360 or the Wii, at least in hardware. However, in software, the PS3 fails in comparison to the Wii. While the controller does give a third axis of control, I doubt that it will provide as much freedom as the Wii will. I'm looking forward to playing Madden in my living room like I would outside.

Ok, in 2 or 3 years, when bluray has obviously taken over the market, I'll buy a PS3 then, when the price has gone from ridiculous to reasonable. No need to buy a PS3 at launch, they've got no games and no good exclusives. Wii60 combination will work fine.
No reason to buy it at launch, seriously. If Bluray does well, I'll buy it then, but until that time, I'm buying game consoles for games, not expensive, experimental media formats.

Honestly, whatever names they come up with for their peripherals have nothing to do with the quality of gaming provided. The only problem is that there are people who are disturbed by the names. More often than not, it's the fanboys who take to action and try to slander the system/company. I'm interested in all the systems, though least of all the PS3, why? The f**king price, nothing else. To you fanboys, while you're whining about who's better, I'll be enjoying all the gaming platforms and the games they have to offer.
