Sony to lose Devil May Cry exclusivity?

Devil May CryIn an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Capcom producer Hiroshi Kobayashi hinted at the possibility of Devil May Cry heading to Wii and Xbox 360 as well, instead of just the PS3 for it's next iteration. This would be another big loss for Sony after Microsoft announced the next Grand Theft Auto for the Xbox 360.

Kobayashi said he still isn't sure about the real power of Sony's new console, but expects the visuals of a new DMC title to look like the trailer shown at the E3 last year. He didn't reveal anything gameplay-wise except for a definitive change in the fighting system. In order to appeal to more gamers, it's difficulty will be lowered and controls will be made easier to master.

The Devil May Cry series was has been one of the biggest selling franchises for the Playstation 2, especially in Japan. And while Sony still holds key brands like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid, that may not be enough to convince most gamers to shell out over $500 for the PS3, when they'll be able to play most of the next-gen titles on consoles half as expensive.

For the love of god. Soon we wont have to choose which console to buy cos every 'king game will be on every 'king console. All because it means more $$$. WTF has happend to loyalty and passion? This is also why we got the utterly spastic war between BR and HD DVD. Why is it no-one looks at Nintendo and thinks that what they are doing is looking after their customers and do they same? God this 360 vs PS3 is sooooooo boring.

I want to play games that have me in mind, not " wow look how good we can make this look. Its way better and our rival"

DMC is ok but to have it on all consoles? They may be concerned with the power of the PS3, but how many multi-format games are going to take advantage of different consoles advantages? None of them, and what good is that going to do? Apart from promote laziness. Nah I'm going for innovation and Nintendo, rather than "look my console can do trees better than yours" Which in fact wont happen cos we'll have so many lazy ass multi-format games.

And yes I realise then fact the DMc may be coming to Wii too. But my point still stands ie YAWN.

# sonys fault thier losing titlesEzekiel_Xz 2006-05-18 23:16
There are a few reasons why thier multiplatform now.

1. Sony are pissing off developers, i think sega said they wernt happy with how sony treat them.

2. Because the ps3 costs so much to develop for they wont make enough profit on it so they need to release it on multi platform to get enough profits.

3. Since the ps3 is so expensive it alienates lots of the market, game designers cant afford to depend on people paying over the price to own a console. So they are releasing them on both to make sure they get a large demographic.

Seriously... u got nfi.

DMC will never go multi-platform... in fact 99.99% of PS exclusives will never see the PC or Xbox 360.

Halo and mario have a better chance of coming to the PS3 than DMC going to the 360.... lol!

Dante is THE man... can't wait for DMC4.. WOO!!!!

im correct. They may not lose dmc. But because of the points I made lots of games that wouldnt have been multi platform now are. Last generation it was loads of games coming to ps2 a few going to xbox and a few on both. Now apart from major titles like GT, DMC, MGS they are all either multiplatform or on the 360. Developers are losing it with sony they really are.

Very good! I am not surprise because Sony is stupid to sell the console very expensive and that's why many companies include third parties will move to Wii for rather cheaper and better sell.

We have since had confirmation that the original article confirms Devl May Cry 4 as a Playstation3 exlcuisve, with no plans to take Dante onto the Xbox 360 or Nintendo Revolution. Sorry DMC fans...

# Devil May Cry 4 IS for the Xbox 360 - Famitsu May 18 2006 says so!Guest 2006-07-25 18:30
The May 18, 2006 issue of Famitsu magazine says that the Xbox 360 is going to receive Devil May Cry 4!

That is the bottom line!

Although an "update" from January 2006 says that the Playstation 3 was going to receive the game exclusively, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that plans change. May 18, 2006 is AFTER January of 2006! This means that as of right now, the Xbox 360 is receiving Devil May Cry 4 and the Playstation 3 ISN'T!!!

Yes, I absolutely believe that Capcom has cancelled Devil May Cry 4 for the Playstation 3. The PS3 is receiving more negative publicity than any system in the history of gaming; it has been that way ever since the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo. By the way, Devil May Cry 4 was NOT shown for the PS3 at the 2006 E3. This should be a pretty good indicator that progress was not being made for its release on the PS3.

The Xbox 360 seems to be a system that Capcom enjoys working on much more; Capcom is releasing games such as Dead Rising and the AMAZING Lost Planet exclusively for the Xbox 360.

Plus, games appearing on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are going to have special online features. For example, Resident Evil 5 will have special features for the Xbox 360, which aren't included on the PS3 version. This is nearly identical to what has happend with the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4. By the way, the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4 will now be released ONE-MONTH BEFORE the Playstation 3 version, not the same day, like previously announced. This just goes to show you that things change in the videogame industry.

From a business point of view, it made sense for Capcom to release game exclusively for the Playstation 2; there were over four times as many PS2 systems in the world as the Xbox. But, look at things from a business point of view now. The Playstation 3 is going to cost $600, and the Xbox 360 will have sold 10 million systems by the end of the year, and 15 million systems by June of 2007. Capcom would be STUPID to ignore those sales figures. Rockstar Games used to release games first for the PS2, then the Xbox. Now, they are releasing games first for the Xbox 360. This is the way it will be from now on, with virtually all game companies.

Devil May Cry 4 will appear on the Xbox 360...and Metal Gear Solid 4 will only be exclusive to the Playstation 3 for a VERY short time period.

# Wow Michael.....Guest 2006-08-21 12:26
If you honestly believe that MGS4 and DMC 4 are going to the 360, then wow. They have as much chance as Ninja Gaiden and DOA coming to the ps3.

Let me tell you Micheal 1 important thing.CAPCOM is the JAPANESE company.JAPANESE GAMERS is their first priority. Are japanese gamers buying xbox 360.NO!Those who buying that console even selling it back just to wait for PS3.Xbox 360 fanboys always jealous when the great games comes to ps3 and then claim it coming to xbox 360 as well. The reason DMC 4 not showing in E3 2006 is because Capcom said that they only showing that game in TGS 2006 in playable form.PS3 is not coming out yet.Don`t make your stupid prediction to early yet.( I`m not englishman but at least I can speak english a bit)

So Michaeal your very long comment about DMC 4 not coming to PS3 I think is totally false and crazy. The reason throw their support to MS is because xbox 360 is the earliest next gen concole to come out.Dead Rising I admit have a very good sales because it has been made according to American gamers taste but in Japan it sales likes crap.Capcom will forget about MS when Ps3 and Wii comes out.
