Sony to acquire Rockstar? |

We've been hearing several reports for a couple of weeks now saying that after the release of the much-anticipated video game Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), Rockstar Games is not only developing a new franchise for Sony consoles but is going Sony exclusive all the way.Given those talks, it's not impossible if the next thing we hear about is Rockstar Games being absorbed by Sony. And that's exactly what PlayStation Universe is saying right now. One correspondent of the said fan site reported:
Various sources in the press and development team state that Sony is looking to take Rockstar "under their wings". While we learned that any agreement Sony and Take-Two entered into would not affect the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV...
Such an agreement would presumably affect any future releases from Rockstar, including the new franchise Sony has been discussing and L.A. Noire, which looks likely to be a PS3 exclusive at this point as well.
However, we believe that there are a lot of things to consider first before taking this piece to be true. First, the controversial game Manhunt 2 is still in limbo and aside from that, it's hard to believe that Take-Two Interactive is going to let go of its top asset that easily.
It should be remembered that the publisher just recently fixed its internal problems and losing Rockstar would mean the world to them. As of this writing, Rockstar Games or any of the companies involved for that matter has yet to give an official announcement.

If this rumour turns out true then it just means Sony is doing what they should have done years ago.
It would be a big kick in the teeth for Microsoft but not as much Nintendo if Sony was to buy Rockstar.
Sony is looking to completely buy out Rockstar making them a full fledge first party publisher voiding the idea of the money being a bribe. This is different than what Microsoft has done in which is bribing a 3rd party publisher, not making it a 1st party publisher, into making exclusive content for the 360. This is how publishers become 1st party.
They're going to half ass all they're games and say they're only possible on the PS3 and with blu ray storage.

Grand Theft Auto started on the PC. It's already coming to the PS3, which Rockstar is probably losing a lot of money on already. What are you complaining about? The PS3 is the reason it's been delayed! The $50 million for exclusive content MS paid is probably allowing Rockstar to finish up the PS3 version!
The PS3 is LUCKY to have GTA IV, as many other former playstation series have gone to XBOX exclusive for obvious reasons.

Why would the games suck? Sony won't be able to tell R* what to do, that's the beauty of R*, they are like a gamble. They are Take2's main reason for money loss and at the same time Take2's biggest money maker. R* likes to gamble and push limits. If this is true, then Sony should at least let them be the way they usually. If they do some ***** like rebrand it Sony-Rockstar and cut away all the risks and gambles, it will become *****.

are a mixed bag. Gears looked wonderful(altho ugh glitchy, maybe my xbox is dying I dunno) but Resistance wasn't the let down that most people said Perfect Dark was. Not many people liked Kameo. And there was that online FPS that released a little bit ago that I personally have not played, but got pretty ass reviews. I'll give them a point for Crackdown, because even though I found it really derivative, lots of other people liked it. Microsoft, in the end, hasn't really made many gems. But the system itself has a great library.

With Hirai as the new man in charge, maybe he saw the value of actually doing pay-offs in order to get some exclusives. In the end, that wouldn't really be a huge deal until the next GTA comes out, because that is the franchise that sells the systems. I think for now, Sony should give Rockstar a $50mil incentive of their own in order for Rockstar to make some exclusive episodes for the PS3 version.

This isn't going to happen. Not for any other reason other than the fact that, although I don't like Sony, they are a business, and they are run by semi intelligent businessmen. It would be totally pointless to buy them now, as GTA IV is ALREADY coming to the 360, we KNOW theres a PS3 exclusive coming out, and most people who actually know about LA Noire generally assume its a PS3 exclusive. What the ***** would they waste millions of dollars for to not change ANYTHING until late 09, early 2010 IF that. You have to consider that there will probably be a Table Tennis 2, theres still GTA IV, Manhunt, LA Noire, and the new Bully coming out on 360 and Wii. The next game that can even have a chance to go exclusive ( besides the already mentioned PS3 exclusive) wont be released for at least another 2 -4 years.

look, both sony and microsoft pay companies for exclusives. gta stayed sony exclusive for a while (forced the slow development of the xbox version) by paying for an exclusivity contract. the same happened with assasins creed, it was only for ps3, but then it was announced for the 360. microsoft bought bungie when they found out about halo, and purchased rare. microsoft and sony are not alone in this, evenb nintendo did this when they found out about metroid. it was made by another company but nintendo bought all rights to the game to stop other formats getting it. they have all done this at one point or another, but sony is by far the worst. on a side note, the ps3's blu-ray drive can only read the 25GB BD-roms as it was released before the 50GB version was made stable. the only way it could have held 50GB was to delay the release of the ps3 even more. every other division of sony is in the red, and if the playstation fails (looking more likely with the sales figures, sales dropped by 87% in the second week) sony will go down with its playstation division. microsoft have far too much money to ever disappear, and nintendo will always get non-gamers to waste money on overpriced addons and games.

Am I the only FPS fan that didn't think Halo was that revolutionary. I think the open environment of the second level was great but the gray walled corridors were the majority of the game and all other levels kept you on a fixed track. Halo 2 was even more set on a track but they finally had online, although Socom was already eating up all my bandwidth for over a year before MS got their online act together. Anyway, Forza looks like trash next to GT hd. So beat it fanboys

All you would get is a whole bunch of Mario related games, some more zelda, and metroid prime. how long can you run on Mario. 3rd party games are usually a 7 or less. Sonys first party games usually shadow of the colossus, Kingdom hearts and God of War were within 15 years. the Gamecube disc format was actually quite big but today the amount of polygons it took to make a map is used on one character. the PS2 wasnt able to use that many polygons anyway.

*****ing PC fanboys... Sorry to say that cause I also have games on the PC myself such as Diablo 1+2, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Sims, WoW, + FF7. But if I know one thing its that I never have to do upgrades to my Video Game Systems. Yes the graphics may be a little better but thats all PC gamers have to hype... Graphics... But I know whats alot easier. Not havinf to install large amount of memory to my game system such as the PS3 cause the game is directly played off the disc. And bringing the game with you is just so much easier cause I don't have to worry if my friends computer is good enough to handle it and if he even wants me to install it on his computer. A simple file on my mem stick and I can play in seconds. Plus honestly I feel so much more comfortable with a ps3 remote in my hand... or a wii... or even 360 than i do with a keyboard... Honestly a computer to hold all the games I would play and performance would be a fortune compared to the Ps3. Plus I dont go on internet except for multiplayer and PS Stoe so I probally wont catch a virus either. All in all PC gaming is not as glorious as it is made out to be but is still a step (a small step) better than systems.

First off PC's are capible of displaying way beyond 1080p. Last time I looked 1080p was 1920x1080 at 60 refresh rate. Even midrange graphics cards can pull that off. Second the last time I looked my laptop has a bluray in it.....Hmm. 3rd as for online play WHERE DID IT START? oh ya PC's. I own 4 pc's including my laptop, a PS3, Wii, and a 360. I will admit pc gaming has went downhill horribly. I would much rather play a game on my consoles due to the fact of easy pop the game in and go, no installing, no driver updates, and no operating system issues.

FYI Metroid wasnt "discovered", its a genuine nintendo developed and thought off franchise, they hired Retro to do the 3d ones on GC/Wii. Metroid 1/2 super metroid and Metroid Fusion were all developed inhouse by Nintendo.

They are going to make a killing on GTAIV because so many people have a 360 and less than half that number have a PS3. Until the PS3 has a larger install base an exclusive like a GTA is out of the question. That's purely from a business standpoint. Now everyone go suck your thumbs and watch Talledega Nights on Blu-Ray since that's all there is to do on a PS3 right now anyways.

GTA 1 was'nt garbage at all. It was a revolutionary game in that time (1997), fast gameplay, freedom to play your character as you wish, etc... GTA II offered the same thing but 2 years later so it wasn't that good.

Why do 360fanboys always point out the difference in install base between the barely one year old PS3, and the TWO year old 360, really, after 5 years, the PS2 had oblitirated the Xbox in install base, so, please, for the love of all that is good, SHUT UP UNTIL THE GREAT GAMES COME OUT. Halo was supposed to be released on PS2 but Microsoft had bought Bungie before the release of Halo and so they changed the engine for Halo made it go only for the Xbox. So, if Microsoft didnt buy Bungie then, there most likely wouldnt be an Xbox 360.

I bought a 360 cause it was Au$400 cheaper and came out 6 months earlier. So far I have seen a thing that makes me say "oh wow, I'm gonna gat a PS3". The PS3 is good but who care about the whole blu-ray thing. So far all the games have been about equal and I'm not paying 1000$ to get a couple of games I'll probably never play! unless I go back to malaysia and get 2 games a carry case and a 60gig model for 600 bucks. I'm gonna go do something real, like soccer.

Dude did u ever think that the main reason why its been delayed is because of the XBOX 360 DVD -9 Rockstar can't fit all the content that they want to on it that they can do with the Blu ray DVD not just that they might have to comprise the the data to fit it all on the DVD-9 that the 360 use's.
First of all the ps3 does not suck, but neither does the 360.The 360 is just as good if not better then the ps3.
