Sony survey suggests PSP could be used as PS3 gameplay recorder |
Ó
Sony's really laying it on with their surveys. Guess they really wanna please the fans. The latest survey that popped up suggests that the PSP could be used as a device to record gameplay on the PlayStation 3, among other things, based on Question 19 and 20:
19. If you could make one modification to the PSP system, what would you like to see?
20. The following statements concern the way you would like a portable device to interact with a console. Rank these statements based on their appeal to you. (1 = Not Appealing, 6 = Very Appealing)
- Use the device to complete side missions for console games (unlocakables, etc.).
- Transfer media (music/pictures/video) wirelessly from the console to the device (broadcast television, new levels for games).
- Use the device WHILE PLAYING the console game as an addition weapon/utility to help the gameplay (second player option, radar for incoming enemies, etc.).
- Record console gameplay for display on the device (showing off your high scores ore "cool moves" to friends).
The first option sounds like a variation of what they're going to do for Resistance: Retribution for the PSP, where connecting it with Resistance 2 will unlock an alternate story. The third option is the same thing we saw from Kaz at E3 2006, where he used the PSP as a rearview mirror while playing F1 Championship Edition on the PS3.
I'd prefer a way to make the PSP a DVR without having to go through devices like Neuros, but that's just me dreaming.

Just finished doing that survey and those questions got a "hell yeah!" (read- very appealing) answer from me.
I wonder what resolution it will record at? probably native psp res, which is basically SDTV wide. It will be good for recording little big planet levels you've made so you can put them on youtube without having to use a camera to record the screen. If this is only for psp 3000 or 4000 then I'm gutted (psp phat 1000 owner)
If Sony really cared, they'd have done this when the PSP was still on the drawing board, not when it's already on the downward slope to secure bottom slot in the global hand held market this generation.
They couldn't care less about 'pleasing the fans' - they care about sales, period.
Seriously, record gameplay on your PS3? What, that's a feature that's going to appeal to gamers and make them want to buy a PSP? So they can record their gaming? Like no other common DVD recorder couldn't do that already?
Ya see, this is the problem with Sony thinking... they focus on stupid crap like that as a marketing ploy.
They want a handheld that will do almost anything, but restrict your access to the unit further with every 'security' patch they release.
Sony wants you to enjoy the PSP on their terms, not yours. That's the problem.
Why not just record it to the PS3 hdd? This is why I hate Sony... Thats like saying you need a vcr to record things from your camcorder to watch it. Wheres the logic?
No, it's your problem, try doing any of that on the other handheld... oh wait. It's their product, they can do what they damn well please, stop being a needy *****, hopefully next time you won't buy it so we don't have to deal with your crap
Very nice But Sony you guys should release the PlayTv over to the US most of us are already digital I know I am since I am using CoX Cable :)
Actually i paid for it so its my product. If they dont want to do something for me then fine but don't tell me i can't do it myself.
Out of all the things Sony originally promised for the PS3 prior to its launch, was that neat concept of using the PSP as a "rearview" or "sideview" window in racing games, etc. ---I don't see why it's now on some 'optional set of features' selection-list. That is one super-cool idea, and would make great usage of the PSP.
--How about the PSP as your HUD information on something like Killzone, or Resistance? It would be great not to have any visual/on-screen reminders that you're playing a game, while being able to look down at your PSP and observe your health stats, etc. Perhaps even as a whole separate way to access your inventory while on-screen action still takes place real-time.
Video recording is a neat idea, and the portability & ease of it sounds like it would be much better than a VCR or DVD-R (as suggested in posts above). But, I really don't think that provides "must have" status for PSP ....and it doesn't give Sony what they're really after, either. With a PSP serving as "optional upgrade equipment" for the Main Game on the PS3, they might even be able to *sell* additional content to run on the PSP.
I bet their plan is for us to buy a PSP to record or buy a PS3 to impress friends and Youtube.
That's not what I meant, what I meant is that he shouldn't be complaining about stuff they're adding
we wanna watch youtube on our PSP, and some better games, I dont want no stupid playstation 3 video record, not everyone has the money to buy a playstation 3, i wonder which dumy wrote that in the survey. damit
"They couldn't care less about 'pleasing the fans' - they care about sales, period."
...You kind of have to please the fans to keep sales, no?
they wanted to increase PSP - PS3 connectivity, and this is just a few ways of doing it. One thing I would like to see is game connectivity, where items and upgrades in one game can be transferred to the other and vice versa. So this way, your progress on one platform benefits the other. If they brought out Monster Hunter Freedom on PS3, this feature would take the world by storm. Hopefully they will do it for Final Fantasy XIII and its PSP counterpart.
Whatever happened to actually being able to play your PS3 games on you PSP through remote play? I've never tested it out with the very few games that do have this feature. I'm wondering if this idea was ahead of the wireless hardware capabilities (remote play lag).
sony_player you're such a fanboy it's pathetic! I shouldn't be complaining about stuff they're adding is not only an idiotic assumption, it's extremely short sighted as well.
Should we add a lawnmower to your car perhaps? It's useless ***** you'll never use, but hey, you never know and we shouldn't complain about it if it's an addon, right?
By your own definition of what's an elligible complaint you've sealed the deal on what defines a moron and a fanboy in one.
Go back to school kid, you're not ready to play with the big boys yet.
sony_player read the rest of the comments here before you go off on your 'oh it's Blackthorn so he must be automatically wrong' bull***** tirade...
You have never looked more stupid than you do right now.
Enjoy.
... but I cant find it? Can someone please post a link or something?
