PS3Those looking for playable PS3 games at the upcoming Leipzig Games Convention will have to settle for something else instead.

Sony Computer Entertainment UK has recently announced that even though they'll be present at the Leipzig Games Convention, none of their PS3 launch titles will be playable at the show. The company is deciding to keep its hand close to their chest until the Tokyo Game Show which takes place later this year. For the Leipzig show, Sony will have two PS3-related announcements instead.

All hope is not lost, though. It is possible, however, that other companies that are developing PS3 titles will have playable demos of some sort at the show. These demos will be in the companies' own booths, though, as the Sony booth will remain void of any PS3 demo units.

» Let's See...

Kojima will be showing a new MGS4 trailer though. Let's hope it shows more characters like the awsome fight scene between Raiden and the Cyborg Ninja.

» here my guess

1.the launch line up

2.the price of the games

» This is getting too repetative...

"No playable PS3 here, no playable PS3 there..."

Sony's wearing me out with this. It's like they're dangling a carrot infront of a horse, and the horse can only hope that the carrot isn't rotten.

If Sony wants people to get hyped for the release, then let us see more realtime videos, and get input from people who have actually played the games!

... I'm scared of November...

as much as i love MGS4....that isn't going to make alot of people buy the ps3...that games isn't even a launch title...so the point please?

» of course they wont show games

Looking at the issue market wise it would be a dumb move on sonys to show there full potential at the Leipzig show. Comparing this show to the TGS, it would be a much more intelligent move to wait for thebig show and steal the spot light completely, especially because that would help to gain a greater japanese market share which, regardless of what some microsoft execs want to say, is THE most important market when it comes to the ultimate life span of a system.

yea....no playable demos at e3, and now none at this show...and you say, "wait for the big show"....ok...sure...i hope you are right

Why is it the most important market? When the ps2 sold way more in America and Europe compared to Japan.

» RSX RSX

I hope the big announcement is regarding to the RSX, which will be a Nvidia G80 with Unified Shaders and 512MB seperated RAM. So we´ll see more beatyfull games when Sony hits the market.

they cant change the hardware anymore.... the final dev kits are shipped.

it still is only a 256MB GF 7800 with 128bit bandwith.

» who's ever heard of the leipzig games convention?

sod that, it's a non-event. i know there are basically only a select few games conventions which matter, and leipzig (from my point of view) doesn't. so sony showing 'it's hand' there would be silly.

what they want to do is start building a buzz a couple of months, or less, before release: this way it ought to reach fever pitch by the time the release date comes. it appears TGS will signal the start of an undoubtedly expensive marketing campaign.

i want more ads like those for the original playstation...

'at least i can say... i've lived'

lol

but they *had* playable demos at E3. or maybe i was at the *other* PS3 booth where alternate universe versions of Heavenly Sword, Resistance: Fall of Man, Gundam, Genji 2, Warhawk, Virtual Tennis, Madden 07, and a few others were actually *PLAYABLE.* i must have been at a totally different E3...

anyway, since the TGS is the next biggest show after E3, it makes sense for Sony to want to hold off on that sort of thing until then. if anything, they'd just have the same playables they had at E3 this year, so it'd feel kind of repetitive.

also, at the TGS, we'll finally get to see what the Japanese developers have been cooking up for the PS3, as E3 this year was pretty much all about Sony answering pressing questions (Price and Launch Date), and showing off their First Party software, with a few 3rd party titles thrown into the mix for variety's sake).

personally, i think Sony is going to have an awesome and surprising TGS. people are going to be clambering over themselves to get in their PS3 pre-orders after TGS.

» tgs

The big announcement will probably be an RSX with improved specifications trust me it will happen.

by sigh - 2006-08-14 02:40
» why sony?

none of the demos @ e# were actually running on final version ps3's since they only went into production in july.

why wait and show off your stuff in japan? sony will do very well guaranteed in the japanese market. with europe being the next battleground, this would seem like the perfect marketing opportunity to show what the ps3 can do.

sony missed the boat on this one, they're marketing guys need to wake up.

by hush404 - 2006-08-14 03:33
» duh!

Sony's not gonna release big guns there, they're going to wait till TGS and go on a full out assualt.

Comedy, i'll take it by your name that you were only joking cos your statements sound very ignorant to me, Leipzig is as important as any other games convention, as long as there are reviwers, writers and editors, it will always be as important as any other event. I was hoping to see playable games at Leipzig from Sony so i can read reviews but as it seems, they want to leave the reviews for Launch which is a decieving moved if you ask me.

» Big announcements

Like everyone said, what Sony needs is a huge announcement right before launch. It would be amazing if they brought the price down $100 right before launch, but that's just a dream It would shut EVERYONE up about the price, and that's a lot of people. Either that, or announce that Killzone 2 is going to be a launch title. Again, just a dream. Oh yeah, and I hope TGS becomes the new E3, not the other random shows like these. TGS is better anyways, because at least the public gamers can get in.

those games weren't running on ps3s.

I'd kinda want to see a game run on the SYSTEM i might be buying.

by Figboy - 2006-08-14 19:29
» good god.

what does it matter that the games were running on dev kits? they were still PS3 games. what games that have been played at E3 have never, ever been like the final release version. look at games like MGS2 and 3. those games had playable demos at their respective E3s. and even before the PS2 was launched, there were also playable demos (i think also running on dev kits), and the games turned out pretty much exactly like their demos (though more polished due to the time of E3, and the time of the console's release).

i just don't understand all of this resistance to the PS3 demos at E3. it's like no matter what they do, they can't win. if Sony were to come to each and every one of your homes with actual PS3 hardware, and demo games for you (maybe even let you play them), it would still be met with skepticism. it's maddening. it doesn't matter, however, as TGS will be an eye opener for a lot of people, fans of Sony or not. and if TGS still doesn't convince anyone of what the PS3 can do, then nothing will, and those people probably really want to hate the system anyway.

after E3 2006, i'm willing to give Sony the benefit of the doubt of what the PS3 will be capable of. E3 2005 wasn't the case for me as it was mostly smoke and mirrors.
