Sony responds to Microsoft: we've got history, highest-caliber third-party titles, and blu-ray

Sony - Image 1After Sony's Yoshida gave some oddly diplomatic remarks about the Xbox 360, I was a little worried that mud slinging between Sony and Microsoft has died down. Well thank god I was wrong.

This week's mudslinging is brought to you by Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft director of product management, and Roby Dyer, SCEA VP of publisher relations.

The exchange is a little tame compared to past trash talks, but it's still pretty entertaining anyhow. It all started when Greenberg gave a comment in a podcast with Major Nelson regarding the Xbox 360 boom in Japan:

Never before in the eight years that I've been coming to TGS [have I seen] this shift, frankly, from the PlayStation brand to Xbox 360 among third-party publishers... We're the platform they're looking to to help bring and grow their franchises around the world.

Gamasutra recently caught Dyer for a response. Although Dyer didn't directly address Greenberg's statement, his statements still ring pretty clear. He says that he anticipates 350 titles across Sony platforms for the fiscal year (whoa). He adds:

PlayStation is the only company to offer the highest-caliber of third-party titles for three successful platforms in all key regions and continents around the world. This speaks volumes about our history and solid relationships with the global development community.

As Japanese publishers look to enter into new global markets, they recognize the breadth and power that PlayStation offers across our three platforms

With over five times the capacity of Xbox 360, PS3's Blu-ray capability enables developers to take their creativity, innovation, and visual presentation to the next level, which simply isnÂ’t possible on any other platform today.

WTF!?!?!?!?!

"With over five times the capacity of Xbox 360, PS3's Blu-ray capability enables developers to take their creativity, innovation, and visual presentation to the next level, which simply isn’t possible on any other platform today." FTW! I bet the 720 brings SLI or maybe even quad SLI then we'll see a switch from CPU processing to GPU processing. Adobe is the first to fall in line by optimizing CS4 to process certain tasks off the GPU rather then the CPU. Then, for the first time, Sony will have to worry about processing power. But until then.....

by wilmheath - 2008-10-16 11:44:17
So did Sega

Get over it. I have both systems and lately i've been playing my ps3 a lot more due to playing catch up from all the great games I missed. Bottom line is I still prefer the 360 for now. ISOHAVEN go get a freakin job with sony and get paid for your fanboyism. You need help dude.

"PlayStation is the only company to offer the highest-caliber of third-party titles for three successful platforms in all key regions and continents around the world." Until the PS3 came out.

A fanboyistic comment if I ever saw one.

by KingPoubar - 2008-10-16 14:04:22
@ Valix

Wow. Go look at some numbers before you go calling names. PS3 is the slowest selling 'competitor' on the market. Your the fanboy.

by logicbomb.de - 2008-10-16 15:31:30
cool!

Thanks for the tip on CS4. need to track down a copy now...

by Hudler - 2008-10-16 15:55:39
WTF!!!

ISO Haven makes intelligent remarks and knows what's going on.... No one ever has to defend owning a Playstation..... The second anyone says the truth about the 360, you guys get pist, start calling people fanboys. Playstation doesnt break like 360, has interchangeable HDD and operating system. SUPERIOR IN EVERY WAY.....

by Xis - 2008-10-16 16:16:33
Hey even though we dont see eye to eye

ISO still states facts besides what kind of insult is a fan of something and be a male I just dont get it. what a stupid thing to say "fanboy" *sigh* either way SOny DOES have 3 successful plats across the world and only getting better the onlything saving 360 from dropping to 3rd place was the price drop

by ISOHaven - 2008-10-16 16:21:53
WTF!?!?!?!?!

"ISOHAVEN go get a freakin job with sony and get paid for your fanboyism. You need help dude." 1. Why? According to others I'm a Nintnedo fanboy. 2. I just, sort of, gave MS praise. 3. Grow up.

by ISOHaven - 2008-10-16 16:25:07
WTF!?!?!?!?!

You're the one that needs to go educate yourself. http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1+Wii+reg1+All+cons2+PS3+reg2+All+cons3+X360+reg3+All+align+1 See the red and green lines? Both the PS3 and 360 sell the SAME AMOUNT OF UNITS on average, per quarter. What that means is, you are WRONG.

by KingPoubar - 2008-10-16 16:39:53
Yeah see the blue line.

Pwned. Who cares that the PS3 "doesnt break" has "interchangeable HDD and operating system". Guess what, the PC has done that for YEARS. :/

by c74gta4smash - 2008-10-16 17:57:19
So true

You can't really dis the PS3 since it has reliable and superior hardware, worthy exclusives that you can't get on a PC or 360, variety in games, more exclusives, uses dedicated servers for online, can run Linux without having to hack has more features built in, Has a Blu-ray 2.0 player for games and movies. There's no reason to buy a 360 other than to feed Microsoft, the company that forces us to play games on a crappy record of OS'. 360 fanboys in my opinion are very much in the wrong. ISOHaven is very intelligent.

by Binary - 2008-10-16 18:03:38
what???

a CS4 ah hell yes!

by Dorkus-1983 - 2008-10-16 18:11:38
well that's all fine and dandy

well, imo: i do believe this is the most balanced generation of consoles that we are going get. see zero puncuation: mailbag showdown, yatzzee pretty much explains the everything!

by ISOHaven - 2008-10-16 21:06:52
WTF!?!?!?!?!

Congrats! You just Pwned yourself! WTF does the Wii have to do with a 360/PS3 comparison? Now you're bringing in the PC for a 360/PS3 comparison? Also, who the heck are you replying to? WTF!?!?!?!?!

by rollypoly - 2008-10-16 21:16:43
ok

history... doesn't really matter for ps3, they killed BC and don't have a library of thousands and thousands anymore. highest calibur third party games... yeah m$ has their own, so no win, no loss... bluray... ok ya got me, point to sony the thing that kills me about all this fanboy crap (i prefer zealots), is that people switched sides and hardly notice it. yeah my console owns for X reason and next gen my console owns because it isn't X anymore (or in this case is very much "X")... sony copies the first xbox throws in some special sony flair and now it's ok to celebrate those virtues?!?!? all of the things said could of been about the original xbox vs playstation2 (swap bluray for hdd, playstation for windows). a huge library of (mostly) crap games was the shield to defend the much worshiped playstation brand... now it's time to bash m$ for being in that same spot. so they didn't break new ground and focus on bleeding edge game / media tech... that doesn't mean it's worthless. in my opinion you aren't a gamer if you don't want a ps3. i do, but i don't value one at $400 either.

by teh not so 1337 g@m3r - 2008-10-16 22:06:29
true and false.

reliable and superior hardware, - Yes and no. The Blu-ray drive can die easily, and Cores are more efficient than Cells (more coders have experience with Cores) worthy exclusives that you can't get on a PC or 360, - Yes and no. A lot of exclusives are crap, but then you have MGS4 and Killzone 2 (

by ISOHaven - 2008-10-16 22:07:56
WTF!?!?!?!?!

As Hudler said, "The second anyone says the truth about the 360, you guys get pist, start calling people fanboys." That is as true as it gets. FACT/TRUTH - Microsoft is getting sued for a 50% failure rate!!!! Do the math! 50 friggen percent! Also, these are consoles that Microsoft KNEW were bad. THEY KNEW IT and shipped them ayway. Also, MS copied other consoles. Sony copied nothing from MS. Where did you get that information?

by platon - 2008-10-16 22:13:56
well...

I'm still gonna have to buy a lame xbox 360 to play the games I want.. (not that I'm not happy with my ps3, but the xbox 360 games are looking good, like star ocean 4... that's lame, it should be on the ps3:@)

by chessboxer - 2008-10-17 04:23:42
graphically

Star Ocean 4 on the 360 looks a bit bland/unimpressive compared to FFXIII (look at the character's hair and movement). If the game is any good, I will pick them up on the PSP.

RE:RE:Yeah se the blue line.

Thats hilarious

by Mister Common Sense - 2008-10-17 21:18:10
PS3 vs XBOX

Fewer discs, but mandatory HDD installs. Neither one is better, it's a preference thing.

by Mister Common Sense - 2008-10-17 21:20:31
50% failure rate?

where the hell did that come from? it's still better than your than your 100% failure rate for making sense to anyone but yourself.

by ISOHaven - 2008-10-18 01:40:19
WTF!?!?!?!?!

by ISOHaven - 2008-10-18 01:43:01

Once again I have to do all the footwork for this idiot because he is utterly incapable of doing anything on his own. http://tiny.cc/1BKjs http://tiny.cc/R9EIF Here's to hoping that some day you get your head out of your ass!

by ISOHaven - 2008-10-22 09:46:56
WTF!?!?!?!?!

I figured you wouldn't have anything to say about that. What's the matter little guy? Can't argue facts?

by arishay - 2008-10-25 18:06:10
BTW?!?!?!?

The comment's for you, Mr. Way too many posts in a single thread guy. Yes, you always know when to say what's on your mind. No matter what the issue, you manage to insult readers who would never even post a comment or reply. Yes, your keyboard is a shotgun of criticism--and you manage to pepper virtual targets and simply call them collateral damage, babies, and trolls. It would be too easy for you to vaguely "Get over it." Yes, you're the boss, and you make sure every single comment posted get's it's own unique insult wrapped up with a cute bow. I think you know who i'm talking to, Mr. Way too many posts in a single thread guy. This comment's for you. You wanna know what I think? Your intuition smells like monkey musturd. I've never been more resolute than this ever before. Every time you post, a pimple on your face pops. By my calculations, you must look like a payday candy bar. Enjoy the limelight, but don't come into daylight.
