Sony responds to analyst: our line-up's great, still no PS3 price cut

Sony: No price cuts this holiday season - Image 1

Yesterday, analyst Jesse Divnich prophesied some doom and gloom for the PlayStation 3 if Sony won't introduce a price cut. Essentially, he said that a great line-up of games just can't compete with a cheap Xbox 360 console. Something he's said many times before.

Sony listened to his warnings.

And then ignored them.

Sounds like a Greek tragedy waiting to happen. Sony's sticking to their guns, saying that there still won't be any price cut for the holidays, saying that:

As previously discussed we aren't making any price moves this holiday season. In my opinion, we have the best line up of any PlayStation generation going into this holiday and consumers will be very receptive to it.

With PS3 titles for this including Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift to name but a few of our multiple exclusives, combined with PlayStation Home and increasing multimedia features for the hardware, we expect to have continued momentum going into and beyond this holiday season.

It's looking like the battle for the holidays is cheap hardware versus great software. The clincher is, the Xbox 360 will also have Gears of War 2. Would a cheap console coupled with GoW2 really steer consumers away from the likes of LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2?

Well, whatever happens, the holidays will at least be entertaining, watching Sony and Microsoft try to beat each other - and seeing Nintendo still come out on top. Irony is also a great part of Greek tragedy.

Biggest mistake of this hardware generation is not dropping the price this holiday season.

360 has seen 2 price cuts this year, PS3 just one. Sony had their ass handed to them last holiday season due to it being a new console, HD war, not many good titles, and price.

I guess they want to get their ass handed to them again this holiday season, which is exactly what's going to happen if they don't drop the price on the PS3.

Before the fanboys jump in...I only own a PS3, not a 360. I've been very patient and supportive of Sony's strategies this year...but this is by far the stupidest move of all.

I just sold my 360 last week. I now only own a PS3. This is because of the great software that is coming for my PS3. 360 only has Gears 2 and Fable 2. Everything else good is coming to PS3. Plus I get LBP and Resistance 2. Sony is proving that the PS3 can sell with a high price. Imagine if the 360 didn't have the price cut? People buy the cheapest stuff. We all like a deal, its human nature. PS3 is the only system that can sell at a high price because it is quality. I say no price cut. Let everyone buy their 360's and have to have them repaired at least three times. Next time maybe they will spend a little extra for quality.

I think the biggest mistakes of this hardware generation are obvious: 360 releasing unstable hardware, without a guaranteed hard drive or hd-disk player to hold larger games, the PS3 being too expensive initially and having not enough games, and the Wii for not releasing enough stuff that uses motion controls and for restricting downloads to 512 MB.

R TARD BLU RAY,,,,,,,,,BLU RAY BLU RAY K?

Sony doesn't need a price cut. Playstation 3 will be here for years to come.

Xbox 360 is leafing like a tree Biff.. Remember Xbox? $140 at xmas '04 THEN BOOOM gone spring '05. Shut down. Can't play very many Xbox games on a 360....

So, Sony is fine, BIG titles are here, and still on a down hill race..FASTER AND FASTER the next gen titles will be rolling in.

Better pray they make a PlayBoxStation X in 2013.....Or you just might have to get what you pay for. Me, I have a $399 luxery multi media HD gaming and home theater device.....Not a $199 smoldering heap of *****!

reason I bought a PS3 is because he sticked to the name I trusted. had psx, ps2 and I upgraded to PS3. yes it was expensive, but I never had any regrets. would be nice to see the price of software drop though.

and talking about the hoiliday's releases, *****, Oct & Nov

have great games coming out too.
