PS3 reaches 238,000 install base in Australia - Image 1Sony may have been a latecomer to the console gaming scene in Australia, but that doesn't mean the PlayStation 3 is in a slump. Sony Computer Entertainment Australia recently announced that 238,000 PS3 units have been sold to consumers since the console's debut in March 2007.

This figure is a bit different from the usual figures taken from official trackers, such as GfK Australia. GfK Australia, for example, doesn't include bundle deals in their numbers, which lessens numbers a bit. This is important to note as certain initiatives from Sony, specifically a Bravia LCD TV promotion in February, gave away free PS3 consoles.

The last set of figures from GfK, taken at the end of 2007, revealed 155,000 units sold for the PS3, compared to 300,000 for the Wii and 306,000 for the Xbox 360. Now that Sony has a pretty strong install base in the country, according to their estimates at least, we can probably expect good things to come for PS3 users in the area. In any event, keep checking QJ for more updates as they happen.

So, in over a year, they still haven't even managed to crack a 1/4 million sales? What's the population of Australia anyway? These sales figures don't seem to be anything to really be proud about... Hell, I bet New York City alone exceeded that many sales in the same span of time.
