Sony PS3, PSP to get videos iTunes-style? |
Ó
In a recent article, the Wall Street Journal online reported that Sony might be quietly moving toward a video download service for its PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable platforms. Sony Chief Executive Howard Stringer is said to be behind the initiative that will compete with Apple's popular service. The report says that those "familiar with the situation" claim that the plan involves the convergence of Sony's PS3, PSP, and Bravia high-definition TV technologies. Under the strategy, media can be downloaded and passed around via the remote viewing capabilities of the PS3 and the PSP, making material more available whether users are on the go or at home.
Movies and TV episodes are said to be in store for Sony product owners, but skeptics are already saying that Sony is entering an area which has promised more than it has delivered. Let's hope for the best if this venture ever comes to be.

It'll be easy for sony since they own like half the music industry (BMG) and half the movie industry. (ps, it's not "half" at all, but still a big part)
They can easily beat everybody on that road, even iTunes. M$ won't have the upper hand on this since sony own too much of the industries. (that's also why blue ray is winning I suppose)
Anyway, it's cool for the common people who believe in justice and everything, but I believe that actors and singers are too rich for the stupid job they do, so I'll never pay (instead it's WOW, then I pay), I download instead...
apple was damn smart to jump on the ever expanding broadband distribution methods and now sony's trying to play catchup.
well firstly, xbox is already doing this and so far it's the leader as far as downloadable game console stuff is concerned, so goodluck competing with them.
second, space, space, and more space. Ok, great, we can download movies *probably only if you have a ps3* but what do we put them on if we don't have those expensive flash cards?
sony just take a step back and concentrate on GOOD GAMES FIRST. then everything else will come together after that, k. lol.
to me isn't too late.. like guy said sony owns to many things about multimedia talkin, music, movies ect... they will not compete with apple but will compete well with microsoft if they do something that 360 don't... really... don't be so *****y... if the 360 do a well susceed why don't the ps3?... same market.. different people... eventualy the games will come.. and more in 2008... is just the ps3 needs more than he is offering right now.
I don't want to download have assed versions of movies when I can watch them on Blu-ray but for PSP they would be just fine, otherwise for PS3 they will get up in the 25gb range. Things like music videos and tv episodes would probably be good though.
Amen on the "too rich" part. I think the "common people" are paying way too much to way too few. Support your amateur music/video nerds!
Can movies be downloaded to an external USB drive on the PS3? 500GB drives are getting cheap, and could hold a lot. Of course, you still can't burn a copy, which sucks.
can't you transfer the movie data on the external hardrive to the computer and use security by passing tech to burn the movies. Even if it's Blu-ray....sooner or later hackers will break the copyright protection and you can easily copy movies such as dvd shrink...duh!!
screw sony n' there stupid shyt.....
even IF this does happen its not like itll be anytime soon.....its all just wait.......wait some more.....little longer, keep waiting......ill probably be dead by the time sony gets their heads outta their asses
